Xiaomi is reportedly preparing a major battery upgrade for its next-generation Redmi Note lineup. According to recent information, the upcoming Redmi Note 17 series could feature substantially larger battery capacities than its predecessors, making endurance the key focus this time. The Redmi Note 17 series is expected to succeed the current Redmi Note 15 lineup. Interestingly, Xiaomi may skip the Redmi Note 16 branding altogether in certain markets to align the naming scheme with its flagship Xiaomi 17 series.

Redmi Note 17 series 10,000mAh+ batteries tipped

According to a new leak shared by tipster Yogesh Brar, Redmi Note 17 models intended for the Chinese market could feature batteries exceeding 10,000mAh. This would be a major upgrade overall and in comparison to the Redmi Note 15 Pro (Chinese variant), which has a 7,000mAh battery. Global variants, including those expected to launch in markets such as India, are tipped to arrive with battery capacities ranging between 8,000mAh and 9,000mAh. In India, the Redmi Note 15 Pro series has a 6,500mAh battery.

If accurate, the battery capacities would represent one of the biggest year-over-year upgrades in the history of the Redmi Note series. The move would also place Xiaomi among a growing number of brands prioritising battery life, like Realme and OnePlus. Devices with 8,000mAh batteries, once considered niche, are rapidly becoming mainstream in the mid-range segment.

The launch timeline is said to remain unchanged from previous generations, pointing to a September debut. With the expected launch still a few months away, additional details regarding the Redmi Note 17 series’ processors, display specifications, cameras, and charging capabilities are likely to emerge in the coming weeks.

If the battery rumours prove accurate, Xiaomi’s next-generation Redmi Note lineup could set a new benchmark for smartphone endurance in the mid-range segment. The Redmi Note 17 series could be worth waiting for if battery capacity is a priority.
