Samsung has offered the first official glimpse of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, giving fans a brief look at the device’s new wider design through a teaser released on X, before the phone launches at Unpacked on July 22nd. While the company has previously hinted at the foldable’s refreshed form factor using everyday objects, the latest teaser goes a step further by briefly showing part of the device itself.
The phone has been teased via Spiderman, with the caricature tweeted by Samsung showing the superhero grabbing the phone with his net. Samsung has a promotional tie-up with the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day film, and hence the teaser features the Marvel superhero ahead of the movie’s release.
The image reveals a thin profile, two rear cameras, and repositioned physical buttons. Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 7, where the buttons sat closer to the middle of the frame, the Fold 8 appears to move them higher up, likely due to its redesigned proportions.
Separately, Samsung has also confirmed on Weibo that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, the same processor used in the Galaxy S26 series. The confirmation, shared via Weibo, puts to rest speculation that Samsung could switch to Exynos chips in some regions for its flagship foldables.
Leaks suggest Samsung will introduce two book-style foldables this year: the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the higher-end Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8. The standard Fold 8 will reportedly debut Samsung’s new wider design, while the Ultra will retain the taller, narrower form factor familiar to existing Fold users.
The differentiation is expected to extend beyond design. According to tipster Lanzuk, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could borrow camera technology from the Galaxy S26 Ultra, including a 200MP primary camera, improved image processing, and better low-light performance. Meanwhile, the more affordable Galaxy Z Fold 8 is tipped to feature two rear cameras, led by a 50MP primary sensor, making camera capabilities one of the biggest differences between the two models.
According to recent reports, the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8 could weigh just 201 gms and measure 4.5 mm when unfolded and 9.7 mm when folded, making it one of Samsung’s lightest and slimmest book-style foldables to date. The device is expected to feature a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display with a boxier 4:3 aspect ratio and a wider 5.5-inch outer display with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
The wider cover display could make the Fold 8 more practical for everyday use, addressing a long-standing criticism of Samsung’s Fold series. It would give Samsung a first-mover advantage in a market where companies including Apple are coming out with wide foldables this year. At the same time, introducing separate standard and Ultra Fold models would give buyers more choice based on whether they prioritise ergonomics or flagship camera hardware, rather than forcing a single design philosophy across the lineup.
