Spotify now lets you transfer playlists from Apple Music, YouTube Music and more
If you’re an avid music listener and someone who uses multiple streaming services (like me) and want to stick to one, you probably have different playlists in all of them. Spotify finally has a solution if you want to stick to this platform but can’t let go of the other services because of all your playlists scattered around. You no longer need to rely on paid third-party services to do this, as Spotify has added a built-in feature that lets you transfer playlists from other streaming services.
Spotify has partnered with TuneMyMusic, an app that lets you transfer playlists across services. This feature is now integrated into the Spotify mobile app and will start rolling out globally over the coming days. You can now easily get your songs saved on other streaming services, to Spotify, and listen to them in one place without having to switch to another platform. While this feature makes this convenient for users, it also creates a way for Spotify to possibly get more subscribers. Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming services with over 713 million monthly active users. It still competes with Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music.

Here’s how it works:
Open the Spotify app on your phone, and go to ‘Your Library’. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find ‘Import your music’. It will be just below the ‘Add podcasts & shows’ option. Once you find it, tap on it and get started to transfer your playlists from Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Prime Music, and other services. You will be redirected to TuneMyMusic, where you’ll have to add details of your account on the other streaming platform. Then, choose the playlists you want transferred to Spotify. Once selected, all the songs will be moved to Spotify. However, do note that there might be some songs that aren’t available on the other platform but not on Spotify. This could arise for select songs, not all.
Apple also introduced a similar feature in September this year for iPhone and iPad users. This is a native feature in Apple Music that lets you transfer songs from other streaming services. You can do this by opening Settings > Apps > Music on an iPhone or iPad or the Apple Music app, then More > Settings on an Android device. Select Transfer Music from Other Music Services, choose a supported service and sign in. Then pick the content you want to move and tap Add to Library. For songs that may not be available in Apple Music, there’s an option to save the alternative options that Apple provides. So if you’re an Apple Music user, you can choose this option to move your music from other platforms.
Since this feature has just started rolling out, it might take some time to reach all users. Also, it’s to be understood that this feature would be available only for Spotify Premium subscribers. If you’ve been hesitant to switch to Spotify due to your existing playlists, this feature removes that barrier, making now an ideal time to consider it.
Speaking of which, Spotify recently introduced new Premium plans in India with lossless audio streaming but increased prices. The new Premium Lite plan is priced at Rs 139/month, and only offers ad-free listening at 160kbps with no offline downloads. The Premium Standard plan now costs Rs 199/month and adds offline listening with 320kbps audio.
Lossless audio on Spotify is now locked behind the new Premium Platinum tier at Rs 299/month, which also adds AI DJ, AI-generated playlists, pro DJ-software integration, and access for up to three users in a household. Apple Music, in comparison, offers lossless audio starting at Rs 119/month, but it requires an Apple ID, making it less convenient for Android users. Spotify provides that platform flexibility, and so does YouTube Music, though the latter still lacks lossless support. This isn’t a comparison to tell you which music streaming platform to choose since the new feature simply enhances the platform’s utility and convenience. As for those who might have been hesitant to switch to Spotify because of their extensive playlists on other services, this feature removes a major barrier, making now a good time to consider it.
