Top 10 Android smartphones on AnTuTu in September 2022

Every month, popular smartphone performance benchmark service AnTuTu releases its list of the top-ranking devices. While the ASUS ROG Phone 6 topped the chart in August and was closely followed by the iQOO 9T, come September, the list has seen a fair amount of reshuffling. While ASUS continues to remain at the top, the list this month has a few new entrants — even as the mainstays remain constant. Although Qualcomm does account for most of the options at the top of the pile, MediaTek strikes big this month, showing that the performance balance of smartphones in the Android realm is an increasingly balanced one today. On this note, here’s a look at the best-performing Android smartphones on the AnTuTu benchmark this month.

1. ASUS ROG Phone 6D Ultimate | €1,399 (~₹1,13,000, not in India)

Score: 1,133,998 points

ASUS’ recently-launched ROG Phone 6D Ultimate is an attempt by the company to do exactly what the name of the phone suggests — to build a gaming phone that is ‘ultimate’ by all means. As a result, you get a device that has an ‘active’ aero vent that shuffles cool air directly into the chassis of the phone. You also get a 2-inch OLED display for additional cooling and performance information.

Interestingly, in terms of specifications, the ASUS ROG Phone 6D Ultimate is powered by a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus SoC, with a single variant that offers 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. You get a 6.78-inch 165Hz full HD+ AMOLED display, and pressure-sensitive corners that work as triggers. You also get a 50MP triple rear camera, 4K 60fps videography, and a 6,000mAh battery with 65W fast charging.

2. ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro | ₹89,999

Score: 1,122,406 points

ASUS’ ROG Phone 6 Pro, which has already been in India for over three months now, was the previous top smartphone in the ASUS gaming phone lineup. The device comes with most of the features that the 6D Ultimate offereds, barring the motorised panel that acts as an air inlet on the latter.

Apart from that, key specifications include the pressure-sensitive corner triggers and the 2-inch OLED display on the back, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, a single variant with 18GB RAM and 512GB storage, and 120fps 4K videography support. Most other specifications remain identical to the 6D Ultimate.

3. ASUS ROG Phone 6 | ₹71,999

Score: 1,119,221 points

ASUS ROG Phone 6

The ROG Phone series has become a reputable line of high-performance smartphones, and every year, Taiwanese OEM ASUS has gradually upped the ante on how the device performs. After having seen Nubia’s Red Magic series rule the top of the list on AnTuTu results for so long, the ROG Phone 6 series from ASUS has topped the former to capture all the top three spots on the AnTuTu benchmark this month — with the vanilla ROG Phone 6 capturing third place behind its two superior variants.

Key specifications include a 6.78-inch, 165Hz AMOLED display, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, a 50MP triple rear camera, under-display fingerprint sensor, and a 6,000mAh battery with 65W fast charging.

4. Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro | $729 (~₹60,000, not in India)

Score: 1,095,968 points

Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro

Like ASUS’ ROG Phone series, ZTE subsidiary Nubia’s Red Magic series has constantly ranked among the top 10 Android smartphones in the world by sheer performance. Unfortunately, Nubia no longer officially sells its smartphones in India, which means that its latest iteration, the Red Magic 7S Pro, is not available in India officially.

In terms of specifications and features, the smartphone has a built-in cooling fan that you can see from the outside as a physically working one, with RGB LED on it (as any self-respecting gaming device would offer). Other specifications include the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, up to 18GB RAM and 1TB storage, a 64MP triple rear camera, a 6.8-inch 120Hz full HD+ AMOLED display, a 16MP front camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with 65W fast charging globally (and 135W charging in China).

5. Nubia Red Magic 7 | $629 (~₹50,000, not in India)

Score: 1,059,348 points

Nubia Red Magic 7

Following on the heels of the Red Magic 7S Pro is the standard Red Magic 7 — which too is no pushover in the world of venerable gaming phones. Like the rest of the devices, you also get the whole gaming paraphernalia here as well.

In terms of specs and features, the phone gets pressure-sensitive triggers and a built-in cooling fan, underneath a 6.8-inch, 165Hz AMOLED display. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, along with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. It also gets a 64MP triple rear camera that can record 8K videos, and a 4,500mAh battery that can charge at up to 120W as well.

6. Vivo X80 | ₹54,999

Score: 1,001,534 points

Launched in India earlier this year as a premium all-rounder, the Vivo X80 is the second MediaTek smartphone in this list of largely Qualcomm-dominated smartphones. The device is not focused on gaming or photography but offers an interesting balance of pretty much every feature that you would need every day.

Key specifications of the smartphone include a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, the Dimensity 9000 flagship SoC from MediaTek, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage globally, a 50MP triple rear camera setup with Zeiss branded optics, dual-band Wi-Fi, the latest generation of Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity for lower latency in wireless accessories, and a 4,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging.

7. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 | ₹1,54,999

Score: 998,367 points

The latest generation foldable from Samsung is not just a novelty, but is also one of the most powerful Android smartphones that you can buy in India today — as per AnTuTu. The device has gone through a number of iterative improvements ever since its contentious first-generation attempt at a commercial foldable device.

With a foldable dynamic AMOLED 2X display measuring 7.6-inch and with 120Hz refresh rate, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 also features a 6.2-inch display of the same panel quality on the exterior as well. The smartphone interestingly runs on Android 12’L’ — the foldable version of Android. Other key features include the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, at least 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, a 50MP triple rear camera with 4K video credentials, Wi-Fi 6e, and a 4,400mAh battery with 25W fast charging.

8. Motorola Edge 30 Pro | ₹49,999

Score: 992,709 points

While a new member of the Motorola Edge 30 series is expected to take the series even further by launching a smartphone with a 200MP camera, the Motorola Edge 30 Pro, meanwhile, has hit the charts of being one of the best-performing Android smartphones in the market today.

Key specifications of the smartphone include a 6.7-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC from Qualcomm, only a single 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant in India, a 50MP triple rear camera setup with 8K or 4K 60fps video setup, a 60MP front camera, and a 4,800mAh battery with 68W fast charging on the phone.

9. Xiaomi 12 Pro | ₹62,999

Score: 983,175 points

Xiaomi 12 Pro

The premium Xiaomi flagship brings up the rear in terms of flagship Android smartphones that top the AnTuTu performance charts. Like some others, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is also not focused on one particular feature — and is instead a reliable, solid premium smartphone that covers most features.

Key specifications include a 6.73-inch quad HD AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, three 50MP cameras on the back, a 32MP front camera, and a 4,600mAh battery with 120W fast charging.

10. POCO F4 GT | €599 (~₹48,000, not in India)

Score: 982,486 points

POCO F4 GT

An interesting entrant in the top performance space is the Xiaomi sub-brand POCO, which has entered the list with its ‘premium’ offering — the POCO F4 GT. While POCO has always been poised as a performance-oriented brand, its value-centric sales pitch meant that it has largely remained an affordable offering.

Taking on the heavyweights here, the POCO F4 GT is ranked as the 10th best-performing Android phone in the world. Key specifications include a 6.67-inch AMOLED full HD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate, physical gaming triggers that are magnetically restrained and pop up on demand, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, a 64MP triple rear camera, a 20MP front camera, 60fps 4K video recording, and a 4,700mAh battery with 120W fast charging.
