The premium smartphone segment in India has evolved rapidly over the past year. Flagships are no longer just about performance as they now push bigger batteries, deeper AI integration, and increasingly versatile camera systems. Alongside these upgrades, prices have steadily climbed, driven in part by rising component costs and higher-end hardware. If recent leaks are accurate, Xiaomi could be the next brand to embrace this upward shift with its 2026 flagships in India, as early pricing details for the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra hint at a more premium positioning.
According to tipster Abhishek Yadav, the standard Xiaomi 17 could launch at around Rs 80,000, while the Xiaomi 17 Ultra may debut at approximately Rs 1,25,000. That would represent a noticeable increase over the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which were introduced at Rs 64,999 and Rs 1,09,999, respectively. If these prices are accurate, then Xiaomi’s new flagships would be entering the ultra-premium territory.
The Xiaomi 17 would be more expensive than its Android rivals like the OnePlus 15 (Rs 72,999) and the Vivo X300 (Rs 75,999). It would also sit close to the iPhone 17, which starts at Rs 82,900 in India. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the more interesting one here as it would now enter a very small segment dominated by the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (Rs 1,29,999), iPhone 17 Pro (Rs 1,34,900), and Google Pixel 10 Pro XL (Rs 1,24,999).
Interestingly, the Xiaomi 17 series may cost around the same as the Xiaomi 15 series in Europe. According to our leak on the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra’s European pricing, both phones are tipped to launch at the same price as their predecessors. This means the European market may not see a price hike, which is an unlikely case in India.
International variants of the Xiaomi 17 are said to offer 12GB of RAM with 256GB or 512GB storage options, in Black, Blue, and Green shades. The Ultra model is expected in Black, White, and Green, with configurations going up to 16GB + 1TB.
In terms of specs, both the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra are similar in most aspects, but with some major differentiators. Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship chipset. The Ultra model features a large 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Xiaomi 17 offers a smaller and more compact 6.3-inch OLED display.
Cameras are also what set the Xiaomi 17 Ultra apart from the Xiaomi 17. The phone comes with a Leica-branded triple camera system including a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 200MP telephoto camera, designed for strong performance across landscape, portrait, and street photography. Xiaomi has also refreshed its photography kits for the 17 Ultra, offering a redesigned ergonomic grip and magnetic attachment support for users who want a more camera-like shooting experience.
The phone is backed by a large 6,800mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging support. The Xiaomi 17 gets a bigger 7,000mAh battery, which is impressive for a compact flagship. It also carries a Leica camera setup, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP telephoto lens with a Leica 60mm floating lens design, making it an appealing option for users who want the flagship experience without moving to an oversized phone.
The Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra are tipped to launch in India in March, meaning that their debut is coming very close. As for the Xiaomi 17 Pro models, it looks like they won’t be launching outside China. Xiaomi is one of the last brands to bring its flagship phones to India, and the pricing leak suggests Xiaomi’s clearest push yet into the ultra-premium space in India.
Until Xiaomi officially confirms pricing and India-specific configurations, it may be wise to wait before going ahead and buying a new flagship. A higher price tag means expectations will also be higher, not just for specs, but for software support and camera consistency.
