The Motorola Edge 70 Pro marks the third addition to the company’s Edge 70 lineup. The handset sits atop the previously-introduced Edge 70 Fusion (review) and Edge 70 (review) smartphones, which, mind you, are solid offerings at their respective price points of Rs 26,999 and Rs 29,999. The Motorola Edge 70 Pro sets its sights on the fiercely competitive sub-Rs 40,000 segment. We got our hands on the device, and here are our Motorola Edge 70 Pro first impressions after using it briefly.

A ‘Pro’ can be slim too
The Motorola Edge 70 Pro continues with its trademark design of a squarish camera module. However, much like its younger siblings, the module has a different finish from the rest of the body. We received the Pantone Tea colour variant of the smartphone, and it has a new satin lux finish on the back panel, while the camera platform boasts a relatively flashy appearance.

The Edge 70 Pro also comes in Pantone lily white and Pantone titan colour options, which have a familiar marble and fabric finish, respectively. The handset continues to be sleek, durable, and lightweight. In fact, the Edge 70 Pro is the slimmest ‘Pro’ model from the OEM, measuring just 6.9mm in thickness. This, combined with the 190 grams of weight, ensures a good grip over the device and comfortable use for prolonged usage.
The handset comes with IP68 and IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance, and also claims MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability, adding an extra layer of reassurance for everyday wear and tear. The volume rocker and power button continue to be on the right edge, within the thumb’s reach without resorting to finger gymnastics, while the left spine sports a physical key for moto AI.
Promising specs
The front of the device sports a 6.8-inch 10-bit AMOLED quad-curved display that bears 1.5k resolution, up to 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, 5,200 nits peak brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. These are pretty standard features for a mid-range smartphone and should ensure a promising viewing experience across scenarios.

Keeping the lights on is a 6,500mAh battery, which is impressive considering the slim profile of the Edge 70 Pro. The handset relies on a Silicon-Carbon battery, which is backed by 90W TurboPower wired charging support. Sadly, there is no wireless charging support, similar to its predecessor, this time around.
The Motorola Edge 70 Pro also misses out on a telephoto lens. Instead, the smartphone sports an upgraded 50MP Sony LYT 710 primary sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 3-in-1 sensor in the triple-rear camera setup. For selfies and video calling, the smartphone relies on a 50MP auto-focus sensor in the punch-hole setup. Motorola has promised improvements in the smartphone’s low light photography, but it will be interesting to see how it will compete against the rivals, especially the Nothing Phone (4a) series, which boasts a dedicated telephoto lens.

At the core of the Motorola Edge 70 Pro lies MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Extreme SoC, aided by up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.1 storage. The latest mid-range chipset is claimed to deliver an AnTuTu score of over 2.4 million, making it one of the fastest SoCs in the segment. The phone packs a 4,600mm2 vapor chamber cooling system to dissipate heat and prevent the performance from throttling under intense usage.
Tying it all together is Android 16-based Hello UI out of the box. Motorola promises three major OS upgrades and five years of security updates for the Edge 70 Pro, a commitment that falls slightly short of the increasingly common four OS updates and six years of security support offered by rivals.

Initial takeaways
Whether the omissions and relatively shorter software support turn out to be deal-breakers is something only a detailed review can confirm. For now, the specifications and aggressive pricing make a strong case for the smartphone. The handset is priced in India at Rs 38,999 for the base 8GB RAM variant, while the 12GB option is priced at Rs 41,999.
