In an aim to bolster its C-series lineup under Rs 15,000, Realme recently introduced the Realme C83 5G at a starting price of Rs 13,499. Targeted towards users who prioritise long battery life and a rigid build, the C83 carries a 7,000mAh battery and an IP64 rating. Furthermore, with the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset on board, the phone isn’t chasing performance numbers.
But does it carry enough prowess for daily use? Find out in this review of Realme C83, where I’ve tested and assessed various aspects of the phone, including display, battery, performance, software, and more.
Table of Contents
The Realme C83 is a suitable pick for those seeking top-notch battery endurance, a strong build, and a snappy and fast software experience on a budget. While the primary camera delivers consistent tones across scenarios, the hefty weight and slow charging speeds could put off some users.
Coming with a flat side frame and edges, the Realme C83 is a boxy smartphone that weighs 212g and measures 8.4mm in thickness. Upon picking it up for the first time, the phone feels noticeably heavy, possibly due to its massive 7,000mAh battery inside, while the matte rear finish does a great job of resisting fingerprints and smudges.
The Realme C83 sports a large 6.83-inch LCD display with HD+ (1570 x 720) resolution and up to 144Hz refresh rate support. The screen achieves a 144Hz refresh rate in only first-party apps like Compass, Calculator, Recorder, and more. For everything else, the refresh rate remained at 120Hz, which also offered a smooth scrolling experience. That said, I wish Realme had opted for a punch-hole cutout instead of the dated dewdrop notch.
Coming to the key highlight of the Realme C83, the large 7,000mAh battery lives up to its potential and delivers excellent endurance. In our in-house PCMark Battery Drain test, which puts the phone through its paces by editing and rendering videos, scrolling through documents, social media, web browsing, and more, the phone lasted 17 hours and 9 minutes.
| Smartphone | Battery Capacity | Charging Support | Charging time (20% to 100% ) |
| realme C83 5G | 7000 mAh | NA | 2h 32m |
| OPPO K14x 5G | 6500 mAh | 45W Super VOOC Charging | 1h 28m |
| Moto G57 Power | 7000 mAh | 30W Turbo Charging | 1h 13m |
This is the highest endurance achieved by a smartphone under Rs 15,000 in our PCMark Battery test, indicating excellent battery backup in real-world use. Furthermore, we observed that the Realme C83’s idle battery drain is almost negligible, resulting in excellent standby times that can last for days. As part of our in-house test, we also played a YouTube video at 2K resolution for an hour at 50 percent brightness, in which the phone dropped just 5 percent battery. Similarly, after a 40-minute gaming session of CODM, the Realme C83’s battery dropped by 7 percent, which is 1 percent less than the OPPO K14x over the same duration.
Running on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, the Realme C83 offers performance that’s a clear tier above entry-level. Scoring 5,61,364 on AnTuTu (v11) benchmark, the raw performance of the handset is on par with other Dimensity 6300 phones launched recently, such as the OPPO K14x, Samsung Galaxy F70e, and Redmi 15C. All these smartphones also fare similarly in Geekbench single-core and multi-core tests, as you can see in the charts below.
While the gaming experience on the Realme C83 may not be as smooth sailing as midrange smartphones, like the recently launched iQOO Z11x (review), one can expect playable results in Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM) and BGMI at medium graphical settings. To assess the gaming capabilities of the C83, we ran CODM at ‘Medium + Max’ settings for around 40 minutes, and the device achieved an average of 56.1 frames per second. Similarly, in BGMI’s ‘HDR + Ultra’ setting, the phone attained average frame rates of 39.4 during the same duration in our tests.
With a 5,334mm2 vapour chamber cooling system in tow, we didn’t notice any significant gains to the thermals of the smartphone. During our gaming tests, the phone’s temperature remained largely similar to the other smartphones mentioned above.
| Smartphone | Pre-Installed Apps | Software Support |
| realme C83 5G | 65 | 1 Year OS Updates + 2 Year Security Updates |
| OPPO K14x 5G | 65 | 2 Year OS Updates + 3 Year Security Updates |
| Xiaomi Redmi 15C | 67 | 2 Years OS Updates + 4 Years Security Updates |
For photography and videography, the Realme C83 is equipped with a 13MP primary camera with a f/2.2 aperture, while the dewdrop notch up front houses a 5MP selfie shooter. Both cameras are capable of shooting videos in up to 1080p resolution at 30fps. The camera app of the C83 boasts multiple modes for various scenarios, such as Panorama, Slow-mo, Dual-view video, Time-lapse, and Pro photo mode.
In low light, the primary camera struggles to deliver a noise and grain-free image, unless you ensure maximum stability. When zooming into the outputs, there’s noticeable softness.
For assessing the rear and front cameras of the Realme C83 in-depth, we compared it against the Moto G57 Power in different scenarios:
Daylight
In the comparison above, the Realme C83 falls short on detail compared to the Moto G57 Power, but it offers a more accurate and natural representation of the scene. The Realme smartphone also delivers slightly better dynamic range with more balanced highlights and improved shadow detail.
Portrait
Even though the Realme C83’s portrait shot isn’t as detailed as the Moto G57 Power’s, it hasn’t significantly darkened the skin tones, considering the images were clicked in sunny conditions. However, when it comes to edge detection, the Moto smartphone fares slightly better.
Selfie
The Realme C83 noticeably boosts warm tones in selfies, while the Moto G57 Power keeps things more natural. In terms of detail and dynamic range, the G57 Power’s 8MP front camera clearly outshines the Realme C83’s 5MP selfie lens.
Night mode
When the sun goes down, the Realme C83 does a better job of controlling the highlights and exposure of artificial light sources. The Moto G57 Power, on the other hand, manages to offer better details and accurate colours.
The Realme C83 stands as a viable option starting at Rs 13,499 for those seeking a solid battery life – capable of lasting days on casual usage, and a strong build quality, thanks to military-grade protection and an IP64 rating to minimise damage caused by water splashes or drops. A couple of more advantages of the Realme C83 include a snappy and quick software, and a primary camera that is capable of producing consistent tones.
Given that the Realme C83 features the Dimensity 6300 chipset and a 7,000mAh battery, it acts as a strong alternative to the recently released OPPO K14x (review). While the K14x starts at Rs 12,999 for the 4GB + 64GB variant, the Realme C83 is priced Rs 500 higher for the same memory configuration, and provides a larger battery. However, with only 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, the base variant may not hold up well in the long run. If the smartphone appeals to you, we would advise you to go for the 4GB + 128GB variant instead, which is priced at Rs 14,999.
