Beginner's Paradise

Flickr has always been very popular but I stumbled upon it very recently. I was totally blown away by breath-taking pics people have posted there. Oh I so want to capture something like that as well. Got bitten by photography bug & started my deep dive into worlds of SLRs, cameras, lenses, photography, ISO, shutter, aperture, focal length & what not. A person who has always been satisfied with his smartphone camera for regular pics had to learn a lot in this expensive new world. nnMy first job was to get myself an able camera. For those kinda pics - It has to be a DSLR. I went to Chromas, E-zones & Reliance Digitals of the worlds & played with DSLRs of every type & make (they generally keep entry level models of Sony, Nikon & Canon). My budget was not to exceed 25k at the max. (Even 25k is lots of money - I could get a Galaxy Note 2 in that). I realized that my hands ached when I played with those heavy DSLRs for even 15-20 mins, with kit lens - weight is easily 800 -1000 gms . Sony's new release ILCE a3000 was also an option but with 18-55 kit lens - it was roughly 700g. I was sure that lazy fellow like me will never be able to carry this much weight, save for first few initial over-enthusiastic days.nnThen I came across the mirror-less variety of Sony. A lot of research & again a lot of playing around with Sony NEXes at Chroma/Sony Center made my belief stronger that these are the kind of cameras I need to satisfy myself. It can give me a great picture quality & is not too heavy hence easy to carry (~ 350g with 16-50 kit lens). nnMy research suggested that great pic quality comes from - 1) Good lens 2) Relatively bigger Sensor 3) The person behind the camera 4) The scene you are clicking - rest of things like (Viewfinder, screen resolution, tilted screen etc etc) are just tools to make the process easier. Sony NEX 3 offers an APSC sensor which is as good and as big as you can get in entry level/ prosumer DSLRs. 16-50 kit lens is not the best but its more than good for a beginner. This lens also offers a zoom. Rest all the tools to make the process easier is also given n1) Superior auto mode & scene selection will let you just point and shoot - you can add various impacts theren2) Image Stabilization is given in the lensn3) ISO range is till 16000 (though 6400 is what I found was usable) n4) Built in Flash - a luxury which Sony has given in this cameran5) Battery - impressive 480 shots timen6) Screen - not as good as your smartphones but good enoughnnI have tried my hands & clicked some snaps. My observations are - menus are intuitive, helpful & very easy to handle. Camera is very portable - I can carry it in pocket of my track pant. I have clicked very few low light pics - but all r clear n detailed.nnCamera - I got it in 23k using Flipkart's various promotional offers. Flipkart was bang on as usual with delivery & packing. I got a free bag, 4 GB memory card & HDMI Cable which kind of sweetened the deal further.nnOverall, photography is an expensive hobby, but you can cut some of your costs by choosing a camera like this which offers you a lot more at relatively lesser price.

For travel with less luggage

I bought this camera for primary one reason, this is compact and good in image quality.nEven though I own a Canon DSLR with good L series lenses , nowadays I am more fond of using this camera for my all travel.

excellent image quality in relatively portable size.

i always look for a camera for best image quality.I have Canon dslr, olympus XZ1, Fuji XF1, Canon S90 etc. Some People may understand which type of camera are these.nAll these are wonderful cameras, still i was looking for Sony RX100,.nAfter two months of research, i decided to buy RX100 because of its 1 inch sensor. But suddenly I thought of mirrorless models so I purchase Olympus EPL3.But its kit lens was very poor quality and was quite big in size, so i returned it.Again I went to purchase sony RX100 in a shop, but it was unavailable. Then I saw discounted NEX3 NL model. Its size was smaller than EPL3 but havind APSC size larg sensor so i purchased it.I knew it will not fit in my pocket but still i wanted to check it.nAfter a week of use, i can say that i dont need RX100 now.The pictures are more good than my canon 1000d with kit lens.(1.8 50mm prime is not compared) nAlso its very fast in operation.nISO3200 pics are also very good quality lesser noise.nscreen is tiltable, good for video and selfie.nBody feels solid in hand.nit has automatic motorised zoom in small packagenIt has built in flash that also can be rotated upwards for bounce effectnit has HDMI port, full HD video with 50fps, very nice quality with no noise at nightnAuto HDR and Auto DO mods are excellent.nI have no regrets buying this .RX100 may not give such quality images in night because of its smaller than APSC sensor but both cameras may also give equal images in good light due to 1.8 lens on RX100.nFinal words............if you want camera to fit in pocket (RX100 will empty your pocket though) then but costly RX100.nYou want dslr quality images in very small package...but NEX models.nEOS is not good ad very slow focusing.EPL series is good but kit lens is poor.nonly best option remains Sony NEX seriesnnbuy nex confidently...you will be happy to have it

Excellent camera in a small package

This review is based upon my first impressions as I received this item only few days back. I feel the camera is pretty fast in taking pictures(I've no experience with DSLR though) and the UI incorporated is pretty self explanatory. The images are excellent and I believe the product description here is not accurate, since they'll provide you camera bag and a 4GB Sony Card. nnHighly recommend for who want to migrate from point and shoot to PronnPros:nfast, easy to use, excellent image quality.nnCons:nThe only thing I believe a little drag is the pop-up flash yes it has a built -in flash but sometimes I feel the flash gonna pop out of the camera.nnPanaroma is a bit tricky at times, only with a proper stand you can get the right panaromic pic.
