Ben Mendelsohn (Danny) plays the oldest son, though he is in fact the youngest (born in 1969) compared to Kyle Chandler (1965) and Norbert Leo Butz (1967).
Originally envisioned as a six season story.
In September 2016 it was reported that the cost per episode for the show was approximately US$7 million to US $8.5 million per hour, with a total cost for the 33 episodes between US$231-US$289 million. Despite receiving tax credits for shooting in Florida, shooting in the Florida Keys was costly. The high production cost is cited as one of the reasons for cancellation, despite positive reviews and award nominations.
In 2014, Bloodline was announced as a partnership between Netflix and Sony Pictures Television. This was Netflix's first major deal with a film studio (for a TV series).
Owen Teague (Nolan Rayburn) also played the younger version of Danny Rayburn (Ben Mendelsohn) in Season 1.
"Lyrics: [opening theme song] Young man goes out looking for the diamond in the sea. Old man rows his boat to shore and falls on twisted knees. Lyrics: And you'll drown before the water lets you in... You'll drown before the water lets you in..."
"John Rayburn: We're not bad people, but we did a bad thing."
