TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

"We shot them under Rule 303" is a reference to the.0.303 inch (7.7 millimetre) cartridge used in British Army rifles.

Director Bruce Beresford once said in 1983: "I have a feeling it doesn't really matter what other films I make, I'll always be introduced as Bruce Beresford who made Breaker Morant (1980)."

First Australian film to win a major award at the Cannes Film Festival.

The role of the Bushvelt Carbineers was to fight against Boer civilian commandos. Apparently, this represented the first ever use of the term "commando".

Incredibly, despite this film's anti-British establishment sentiments and anti-Colonialism theme, a Royal Charity Film Premiere was held on 23rd October 1980 in London, England. The event was attended by King Charles III who afterwards arranged for a Buckingham Palace screening of the film for Queen Elizabeth II.

Popular Dialogues

"[last lines] Harry Morant: Shoot straight, you bastards. - Don't make a mess of it!"

"Sentry: Do you want the padre? Harry Morant: No, thank you. I'm a pagan. Sentry: And you? Peter Handcock: What's a pagan? Harry Morant: Well... it's somebody who doesn't believe there's a divine being dispensing justice to mankind. Peter Handcock: I'm a pagan, too. Harry Morant: There is an epitaph I'd like: Matthew 10:36. Well, Peter... this is what comes of 'empire building.' Major Thomas: Matthew 10:36? Minister: "And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.""
