There were plans for a sequel and perhaps even a trilogy, but after ten years that has not come to fruition.
Originally written as a stern and grumpy character, it was Brad Dourif's own idea that Stanley be shown as rather kind and soft-spoken to Jarod in contrast.
A number of active funeral homes were used in order to lend credibility to the environment and satisfy a need for realistic props and set dressing.
Jeremy Sumpter immersed himself in his goth character and spoke with director Justin Steele about making the rebellious Jarod more believable as a gothic outcast, not to be confused with a trendy emo kid. Sumpter credits Co-star Brad Dourif with encouraging him to do research for the character, digging deep in order to understand the outcast teenager's somewhat isolated existence in a trailer park.
"Stan: [every time someone asks about the coffin] It's for show."
"Jarod Leary: It's clear you don't like to deal with customers, so... Stan: It's clear that there are no customers. Jarod Leary: [takes Stan's newspaper and flips to obituaries] Five deaths in the last week. You're telling me all those people could afford a nice funeral?"
