Although "Doom Patrol" was technically considered to be a spin-off of "Titans", a lot of fans noticed inconsistencies between the series and the episode of "Titans" in which they were originally introduced. The timeline didn't seem to sync with that of "Titans" and the fact that Beast Boy was never shown or mentioned in any capacity, despite having initially been a long standing member of the team. When asked about these inconsistencies, producers always gave vague answers and said they didn't want to be tied down to the "Titans" mythology. The discrepancies were finally clarified during the CW's "Crisis On Infinite Earths" crossover event. At the conclusion of the event, it was shown that the "Doom Patrol" series takes place on Earth-21 while "Titans" takes place on Earth-9. Therefore the Doom Patrol team featured in the "Titans" episode is NOT the same team featured in the "Doom Patrol" series, but rather the Earth-9 version.
The team in this series is a mix of various line-ups from the comics. Robotman Cliff Steele is the only member who has been on the Doom Patrol in all its comic book incarnations. Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane have never been on the team at the same time. Cyborg is not tied to the comic book team in any way, his Teen Titans teammate Beast Boy, however, is.
Brendan Fraser rarely wears the Robotman suit. Most of the time the character is played on set by Riley Shanahan.
Diane Guerrero had been vocal about wanting to play a superhero and described her dream role as '"anything involving sci-fi or fantasy".
Robotman wears a different T-shirt of a rock band in every adventure, mostly, punk bands, such as The Clash, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, etc.
