Kanjoos Makhichoos Review

Kanjoos Makhichoos' features a talented ensemble cast, but ultimately falls short of its potential. The film's title implies that it revolves around the miserly protagonist, but this characteristic does not contribute much to the plot. Additionally, the movie struggles to balance subtle humour and over-the-top comedy, leading to several forced jokes that don't land. However, Kunal Kemmu delivers an impressive performance, anchoring the film to some extent. The writing is sloppy, with repetitive and forced jokes, lacking originality. While the setting of Lucknow provides a good backdrop for the story, the screenplay lacks freshness and fails to maximize the talents of seasoned actors like Shweta Tripathi, Piyush Mishra, and Rajiv Gupta, except for Rajiv's standout performance. The film follows Jamna Prasad Pandey, a stingy shop owner in Lucknow who secretly saves money to fund his parents' pilgrimage to the chaar dhaam yatra. However, tragedy strikes when his parents are believed to have died in a flood during the yatra. Jamna receives only 10 lakhs out of the 14 lakhs he was promised, leading him to seek justice against the corrupt system. Kunal Kemmu impresses with his comic timing and Uttar Pradesh mannerisms, while Rajiv Gupta's portrayal of a corrupt government official adds sanity to the stale film. Piyush Mishra's talent is unfortunately reduced to a caricature in the movie. Despite its attempts to be a family entertainer, the lackluster screenplay lets the film down, resulting in an average movie.
