Rotten TomatoesLucky Hank is a black comedy series that has Bob Odenkirk in the lead role. But despite the acting prowess of the actor, the show has largely failed to amaze viewers. Firstly, the plot seems a bit over familiar and predictable, which honestly takes away from the wonders of a black comedy. Then, this adaptation of Richard Russo's 1997 novel Straight Man tends to have a lot of boring moments, which is not great for a series with its first season. However, the characters are decent and the writing flows rather smooth. These two levers act as the saving grace, and could be the reason why Lucky Hank is really worth at least a one-time watch. Before going in, however, do note that this is outside of what Bob Odenkirk usually does, especially quite different from his Better Call Saul personality.

When Better Call Saul ended, Bob Odenkirk says although he is not ready to leave Saul behind, he is happy to play "a humorously disgruntled professor dealing with the world of academia and the security and instability of that world", in Straight Man.
This show is based on the Richard Russo novel.
