Shot on location in Dublin, the exterior locations included period set dressings appearances of the distinctive buildings at Kings Inns & Henrietta Street, various buildings of the Guinness Brewery in St James', among many others, utilised with digitally enhanced "matte painting" streetscapes.
Season 1 is set in London, England, but was filmed in Ireland.
Eliza Scarlet's name comes from two literary heroines. Eliza's character is based on Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, and Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With The Wind.
The set backgrounds, house paint and decorations and clothing (Miss Scarlet's dresses, men's vests, maids clothing) are often all in shades of teal blue.
The UK production partner, Alibi, is actually a relatively minor crime themed niche channel broadcasting in the UK & Ireland. This therefore creates a curious situation where hardly anyone in the country where this is set (London, England, UK) has seen the series, unlike the other PBS series co-produced/solely produced by the main ITV, BBC channels, and virtually no one in Ireland has seen the series, where the series was actually filmed.
