The Indian OTT scene is only growing with new original titles releasing regularly, and theatre hits coming to streaming platforms as well. There are various options for viewers to choose from with new releases appearing every month at least. Viewership is what counts for OTT shows, and we’ve just come to know which was the most watched Indian web series so far.

Most watched Indian web series

According to a report by Ormax Media, Farzi was the most watched Indian web series with 37.1 million views. The data is according to the firm’s estimates, and it has been calculated from the start of 2022. Interestingly, Farzi released earlier this year in February on Amazon Prime Video. Just second in the list is Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness with 35.2 million views, and The Night Manager with 28.6 million views.

Rudra released in March last year on Disney+ Hotstar, while The Night Manager released in two parts in February and June this year. This one too is available to watch on Disney+ Hotstar.

Farzi plot, cast

Farzi is a black comedy thriller directed by the famous duo Raj & DK, and starring Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi, Bhuvan Arora. It also marks Shahid Kapoor’s OTT debut. Farzi is an 8-episode series about a disillusioned artist who fails to keep his grandfather’s printing press. He then decides to make counterfeit money with his best friend but is challenged by a gangster and a cop. Farzi is confirmed to return for a second season. The show has an IMDb rating of 8.4.

The report was largely on how theatrical releases on OTT still outperform originals launched exclusively on the streaming platform. The survey was done based on audience reaction and engagement around new OTT releases. There was more buzz around the release of theatrical films on OTT such as Gadar 2, OMG 2, and Jawan. Collectively, 150 Hindi language web series and direct-to-OTT films released since mid-November.
