IMDbFull credit belongs to Selvaraghavan for going the paranormal road without using the clichés typically found in such stories. The first half of the book is superbly constructed. The first half contains enough terrifying scenes to allow viewers to understand why Selvaraghavan is a brilliant storyteller, especially when he is in the zone. As per usual, Dhanush dominates both parts, and while he gets to play to the crowd as the villain Kathir, he is far more credible as Prabhu. When the movie gets to its second half, it starts to feel largely predictable, and there's a sense of urgency in finishing the tale without even forcing the audience to care about the tension between the brothers. Naane Varuven would have performed even better had the second half had the same impact as the first. The performances in the film are decent and deserve appreciation and overall, the film deserves to be watched.
This film marks the reunion of director Selvaraghavan and his brother, Dhanush, after a period of 12 years. Their last film together was Mayakkam Enna (2011).
