The plot centres around undercover police officer Shakthivel (Gautham Karthik), who is looking into the disappearance of Tamil Nadu's chief minister (Santhosh Pratap). He believes that infamous gangster AGR (Silambarasan TR) is to blame. Because of AGR's dominance in the sand mining sector, Shakthivel finds it difficult to gather evidence against him. Shakthivel discovers disturbing truths that make him question his determination as he attempts to win AGR's trust. Similar to the original movie, Pathu Thala's second half is where STR is mostly seen. But at this point, the story starts to come together and become more compelling. The initial moments where Shakthivel learns about AGR's power and influence are inadequate and fail to leave an effect on the audience. The heart of the film, however, is in the post-intermission sequences, in which STR delivers a remarkable performance. In comparison to the original, Pathu Thala may not be a particularly strong film overall, but it is nonetheless recommended because of its leading actors and a few standout sequences.
