Varun Dhawan, who plays a tailor from the heartland of India in this movie. Since in the film, Mauji is supposed to look well versed with handloom, he decided to perfect the same and met real handloom workers to learn the art of dyeing fabrics. He learnt dyeing from real handloom artists in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh.
Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan worked in a textile factory in Faridabad for four days to learn how small scale business works.
