The film's premise is somewhat similar of the Stephen King short story, also called "The Ledge".
The apartment number shown in the film, "212" is a reference to the birthday, February 12th, of Charles Darwin, who is the great-great-grandfather of the film's writer & director, Matthew Chapman.
The Ledge, which features an outspoken atheist lead, played in 50 territories around the world, including Indonesia and Turkey. At the time of its release in Indonesia, Alexander Aan was being prosecuted under the country's blasphemy laws for saying he did not believe in God on Facebook and was later sentenced to two and a half years in prison. In Turkey, where the film was also playing, internationally known classical pianist Fazil Say (who often plays with the New York Philharmonic) was being prosecuted for "insulting Islam,' and was sentenced to 10 months in prison suspended for 5 years, essentially gagging him. (The sentence was overturned two years later). Regular audience members and associates of the accused in both countries contacted the director to ask for his support.
Patrick Wilson starred as Michael Holt in A Gifted Man. In Episode 15, "In Case of Letting Go" Maggie Siff stars as his high school sweetheart. Maggie Siff plays Jackson 'Jax' Teller's wife in Sons of Anarchy, played by Charlie Hunnam.
Shana asks if Gavin was a teacher and Gavin replies "Yes". Charlie Hunnam played a PE teacher in Green Street Hooligans (2005).
"Gavin Nichols: [after Shana tells Gavin she and Joe are going to a new church that does missionary work in Uganda, that's against smoking, drinking, immodest dress for women and secular music] [scoffs] Gavin Nichols: Jesus Christ. Restrings your guitar one day, stops you from playing it the next. Shana Harris: You're so flippant, aren't you? You have no idea what it's like to lose everything and to try and put it all back together again."
"Gavin Nichols: Love the Sinner, hate the sin?"
