TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

This series shows Howard Carter and Evelyn Herbert, the daughter of Lord Carnarvon in a possible romantic relationship. This is actually incorrect and the estate of Lord Carnarvon had to issue a statement that contradicted this claim.

The rocks and sand in the Valley of Kings are much lighter coloured than depicted in the series. The difference seen in the show is as a result of colour correction during the editing stage, because flat white backgrounds are visually dull.

Tutankhamun was filmed both on location and in an adapted studio in South Africa. Location work took place in the north-west of the country 370 miles from Cape Town along the Orange River, which marks the border with Namibia.

On Youtube, the two and a half hour long video "Fly on the Wall Film of a Large Orchestral Session at Air Studios" gives a detailed look at the recording of Christian Henson's score.

The title is referring to the Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty (ruled c. 1332-1323 BC), who died at the age of 18. His tomb was discovered in 1922 by archaeologist Howard Carter who was under the employment of Lord Carnarvon.

Popular Dialogues

"Lord Carnarvon: [as Carter first peers into the tomb] Can you see anything? Carter, can you see anything? Howard Carter: Yes, wonderful things."

"[last lines] Howard Carter: [referring to the key and padlock to secure the tomb] No, leave it. I'll do it. Thank you very much. [Carter returns to the sarcophagus and revisits several old memories before he finally leaves and locks the gate to the tomb behind him]"
