5 ways in which iPhone 15 will be different from iPhone 14

The iPhone 15 launch is next week, and we're expecting quite an upgrade over the predecessor.

We're less than a week away from seeing Apple's much-awaited iPhone 15 series, launching officially in Cupertino on September 12th. As per convention, we expect to see four models in the lineup - the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max - but wild rumours suggest either there will be a fifth iPhone 15 'Ultra' model, or the Pro Max would only be called 'Ultra'.

With every new iPhone launch, Apple's naysayers bring out the 'same phone, different name' meme but we highly doubt that's going to be the case this year. The Cupertino giant is expected to bring about a multitude of changes from last year's iPhone 14 series, which include hardware improvements too. In this article, we focus on five ways the vanilla iPhone 15 could be different from the outgoing iPhone 14.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 15: changes we expect

• USB Type-C port: The biggest change we're expected to see is Apple's shift to USB Type-C ports after 11 years, with the iPhone 15 series. EU regulations have probably forced Apple to shift from its proprietary Lightning port, which it introduced with the iPhone 5, and adopt the universal charging standard. All four models of the iPhone 15 series will get the USB-C port, thereby making them compatible with non-Apple chargers. We also expect to see faster charging speeds, Thunderbolt in the case of the Pro models.
• Dynamic Island: Apple partially bid adieu to its infamous notch, which first arrived with the iPhone X in 2017. The iPhone 14 Pro models sported the Dynamic Island, a pill-shaped interactive cutout which would reflect live activities. This year, even the base iPhone 15 models - namely the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus - will get the feature.

• Cameras: Reports suggest this year's iPhone 15 will get a huge camera upgrade, featuring a 48MP Sony sensor with improved low-light performance. This is a huge bump from the 12MP rear camera we've been seeing on the models. It's still unclear whether we'll see stacked camera technology in the iPhone 15, which Apple was rumoured to be testing. However, the resolution bump has been reiterated by a number of sources. The Pro Max model, on the other hand, could see the addition of a periscope lens.

• Chipset: The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will likely feature the A16 Bionic chipset, which is present on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. The RAM will likely remain fixed at 6GB LPDDR5. The iPhone 14 base models got the A15 Bionic last year.
• Battery: The iPhone 15 is rumoured to get a 3,877mAh battery, up from the 3,279mAh on the iPhone 14. However, Apple never officially reveals battery sizes and these figures are based on iPhone 14 teardowns and rumours.

There's no word yet on the iPhone 15 price though rumour has it that the iPhone 15 Pro models will demand a higher cost this time around.
