AMD brings 3D V-Cache to commercial workstations with Ryzen PRO 9000 Series
AMD has announced the Ryzen PRO 9000 Series desktop processors. This expands brands’ commercial and workstation lineup with a significant first: the world’s first enterprise-grade workstation processor featuring AMD 3D V-Cache technology.
These processors are expected to be available in the second half of 2026, with Lenovo as one of the first OEM partners. They will showcase the new chips in their ThinkStation P4 at NXTBLD.
What 3D V-Cache means for workstation users
AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology adds extra cache memory directly on top of the processor die. This dramatically increases the amount of data the CPU can access without reaching out to slower system memory. In gaming, this has already made a big difference. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is currently one of the fastest gaming processors available. Bringing this technology to enterprise workstations is a logical next step. Applications that frequently access large datasets, such as complex simulations, 3D rendering pipelines, finite element analysis, and real-time compositing, gain the most from more cache. The Ryzen PRO 9000 Series includes processors with 6 to 16 cores. TDP options go up to 170 watts for sustained peak performance during professional workloads. The variety of core counts and power profiles should enable OEM partners and IT buyers to configure systems to meet specific workflow needs.
Target workflows
AMD is positioning the Ryzen PRO 9000 Series for three main professional segments:
- In media and entertainment, the focus is on real-time 4K and 8K video editing, faster encoding, and compositing workflows. Especially when used with AMD Radeon PRO graphics.
- In architecture, engineering, and construction, the chips target complex BIM modelling and real-time visualisation.
- In manufacturing and mechanical design, the emphasis is on speeding up 3D CAD, simulation, and design iteration cycles.
AMD’s choice to bring 3D V-Cache to commercial workstations aims to close the performance gap with Intel’s Xeon-based workstations while also distinguishing itself from its non-V-Cache Ryzen PRO series.
The technology has shown its value in consumer applications, and its introduction to enterprise silicon gives workstation buyers a new performance boost, one that does not depend on simply adding more cores or increasing clock speeds.
With Lenovo’s ThinkStation P4 as the first confirmed platform, the Ryzen PRO 9000 Series is entering a well-established workstation market. Independent benchmarks across target workflows will truly show how much the increased cache capacity leads to productivity gains in practice. The planned availability is in the second half of 2026. This should give AMD and its OEM partners time to develop the software and certification ecosystem.
