According to screenshots shared on X, the alerts warn the user about state-sponsored attackers possibly targeting their iPhone.
In response to these alerts Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the government will investigate it. Vaishnaw added that Apple has also been asked to join the investigation with "real, accurate information on the alleged state sponsored attacks."
Apple in its support page explains about these alerts for state-sponsored attacks. It says, "If Apple discovers activity consistent with a state-sponsored attack, we will notify the targeted users." It also explains the possibilities of what happens in such a situation. The attackers might be able to remotely access your sensitive data, communications, camera and even microphone.
Apple also highlights the possibility of this being a false alarm but to still take it seriously. As for the details about the threat, Apple says that it can't provide any information "as that may help state-sponsored attackers adapt their behaviour to evade detection in the future." Now what the reason might be behind these alerts is unknown but we're expecting an update on the investigation to clear things out.
iPhones are quite tough when it comes to privacy and security. Still Apple suggests taking certain steps to keep their devices. These include updating devices to the latest software, using 2FA and strong passwords, installing apps from the App Store, and not clicking on links or attachments from unknown senders.
