Update (August 2025): ASUS launched the ROG Phone 9 FE in February 2025, and it matches our earlier leak in design and specs. It keeps the flagship’s 6.78-inch 165Hz AMOLED LTPO display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16GB RAM, AirTrigger controls, and Phantom Black finish. As predicted, it drops the telephoto camera, uses a 5,500mAh battery with 65W charging, and retains IP68 water resistance, delivering core ROG features at a lower price.

The ASUS ROG Phone 9 series is set to expand with a new ‘FE’ edition. Similar to Samsung’s Fan Edition concept, the ROG Phone 9 FE is expected to deliver core gaming features of the flagship models at a lower price point. ASUS has yet to confirm the device officially, but it has already cleared multiple certifications. Now, 91mobiles has obtained exclusive details on the phone’s specifications and design from industry sources.
The ROG Phone 9 FE will sport a 6.78-inch FHD+ (2400×1080) Samsung Flexible AMOLED LTPO display with up to 165Hz refresh rate in standard use and 185Hz in Game Genie mode. It offers 2,500 nits peak brightness, 1,600 nits in High Brightness Mode, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, matching the panel on the ROG Phone 9 and 9 Pro.
Under the hood, the handset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 paired with Adreno 730 GPU, 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 256GB UFS 4.0 storage. The camera setup includes a 50MP Sony IMX890 primary sensor with OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP macro shooter. For selfies, there’s a 32MP front camera. Notably, it skips the telephoto lens found on the main ROG Phone 9 series.
Powering the device is a 5,500mAh battery with 65W wired charging and wireless charging support. This is slightly smaller than the 5,800mAh unit on the flagship models. The phone runs Android 15 with ROG UI, and connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual stereo speakers with Hi-Res Audio, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Visually, the ROG Phone 9 FE mirrors its flagship siblings with the same camera island and ROG logo on the rear. It will be offered in at least one colour – Phantom Black. The handset incorporates AirTrigger shoulder controls for enhanced gaming, weighs 225g, and measures 163.8 x 76.8 x 8.9mm. It also carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
The FE edition seems aimed at gamers who want flagship display and control features without paying full flagship prices. Compromises like a smaller battery and lack of a telephoto lens help reduce costs while retaining the ROG DNA.
