iPhone 15 Pro review by Nothing CEO

  • The interview features an Apple Store employee who is virtually present at the office for the review. They start off by doing a blind camera test with each of them guessing which phone it is. In daylight images, the iPhone 15 Pro and Nothing Phone (2) deliver almost the same quality but the latter does mess up the exposure in one of the camera samples.
  • Pei highlights how it’s easy for any smartphone to do well in good daylight conditions. But it’s in situations like lowlight and fast-moving objects, that the iPhone 15 Pro really performs.
  • Talking about the changes and upgrades, the two discuss the USB-C port, and how Apple finally gave in to user demand. But Pei says Apple probably wouldn’t have done this without the government forcing them to as it would make sense for the brand to retain more people.
  • The Apple store employee chimes in and adds how it’s ironic for an environmentally-conscious brand to make people buy extra cables. Pei says that Nothing took inspiration from Apple to reduce the materials used for its products and add more recycled materials.

  • Design wise, Apple did make a lot of change in terms of the materials as it’s now a titanium body and not stainless steel. Overall, the look stays the same though for the iPhone 15 series. This also drew a lot of negative comments online but contrary to that everyone’s going for the Pro models, and they’re getting sold, according to the Apple guy.
  • Another big change on the Pro models is the action button that replaces the mute switch but with more functionalities. Pei says that this decision seemed confusing as he thought that Apple was going to try and simplify things but they’ve added another button. He argues that you’ve added more functionality but then there’s no balance anymore. But he adds that Apple probably has big plans for the action button later.
  • Pei also shared his disappointment about the UI which now “looks crazy” and “like a zoomed in version of the phone.” He talks about how Apple had beautiful icons before iOS 7, and how they were skeuomorphic but now it’s a mix between digital and lifelike.

About whether one should upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro models, the Apple guy says that he uses a 12 Pro Max now, and isn’t sure if the big changes are relevant for him. About switching to Android, he’s never thought about it because the Apple ecosystem is convenient and keeps him hooked. Maybe if Android has something similar he might consider switching to one.

Pei also asks him for a review of the iPhone 15 Pro and whether one should upgrade to it. The Apple guy says it’s overall a better phone than the previous one but if you have a 14 Pro you can consider waiting for another year, especially because of the iPhone 15 Pro’s hefty price tag
