After much waiting, OPPO officially introduced ColorOS 17 in India today at the OPPO Developer Conference (ODC), where the company detailed the software’s design, AI enhancements, new features, and rollout schedule for OPPO, OnePlus, and Realme smartphones. Based on Android 17, the update will start rolling out to the OPPO Find X9 series, OnePlus 15, and Realme GT 8 Pro on October 8th, while the Find X10 series, releasing on September 22nd in China, and OnePlus 16 will ship with the skin preinstalled.
ColorOS 17 also marks the unification of OxygenOS and Realme UI into ColorOS, as they’ve combined resources, resulting in faster, more stable update rollouts.

ColorOS 17 key features, design changes, improvements
While over-the-top ColorOS 17 looks identical to ColorOS 16, the updated Fluid Design drastically enhances the UI’s interactivity and cohesiveness. The latest iteration of ColorOS features vibrant lighting effects, fluid motion dynamics, and snappy tactile responses. The Polar Light Engine powers the system, engineered to slash app startup and RAM usage by 25 percent while trimming rendering demands by 30 percent.
Performance and speed improvements
- Tidal Engine: Custom-allocates system resources to keep background apps alive, boosting retention stability by 55.6 percent.
- Speed enhancements: Delivers 50 percent faster scrolling and load times in third-party apps, 30 percent quicker mini-program launches, and 15 percent faster app toggling.
- Longevity: ColorOS 17 guarantees up to six years of lag-free operation on eligible devices.

Next-gen imaging and AI photography
- AI Photo Editor: Unifies image cleanup, blur correction, and colour grading into a single suite, complemented by native 2K ProXDR rendering.

- Da Vinci Engine: Leverages six specialised models dedicated to framing, lighting, colour theory, subject detail, exposure, and image crispness.
Productivity and system intelligence

- Xiaobu Assistant (China Market): Expanded to cover 700+ proactive service scenarios, featuring task management via Xiaobu Space, travel handoffs, airport pickup alerts, and smart memory reminders.
Ecosystem continuity and accessibility
These features are likely to remain exclusive to China due to the presence of a multitude of ColorOS-supported devices there apart from smartphones:
- Cross-device sync: ColorOS 17 pairs your phone with smart cars (for seamless foot-navigation handoffs), cameras, earphones (real-time conversation translation), and wearables for added functionality.
