Google appears to be preparing a new Fitbit fitness tracker. Called the Fitbit Edge, the upcoming wearable has leaked in full, revealing a small display, built-in GPS, and up to seven days of battery life. The leak also suggests that Google is positioning it between the screenless Fitbit Air and the more capable Pixel Watch 5.
According to a report by Android Headlines, retail material reveals the Google Fitbit Edge as a fitness band with a compact, oval-shaped colour display. The design looks closer to the Fitbit Charge series with a slim band and side buttons. The leaked colour options include black, green and orange, which are similar to the colour palette used for the Pixel 11 Pro.
The Fitbit Edge is tipped to offer up to seven days of battery life, built-in GPS, an altimeter for elevation tracking, and automatic workout detection. Although it has a small display, it’s said to offer support for smartphone notifications, along with a limited selection of apps and functions, including Google Maps, YouTube Music/media controls, and Find My Phone. The device is also expected to support both Android and iPhone.
The Edge’s positioning is particularly interesting because Google’s existing smart wearable lineup already covers the two extremes. The Fitbit Air is designed as a screen-free, distraction-free tracker, while the Pixel Watch 5 offers a complete smartwatch experience with Wear OS. The Edge appears to occupy the middle ground, offering a screen and some smart features without the size, complexity or shorter battery life associated with a smartwatch.
The Fitbit Edge could effectively become the successor to the Fitbit Charge series, which has not received a new model since the Fitbit Charge 6 launched in 2023. Rather than competing directly with full-fledged smartwatches, the Fitbit Edge appears aimed at users who want essential fitness and smart features in a smaller form factor.
Google has yet to officially confirm the Fitbit Edge. However, the latest leak suggests that the fitness band could be launched sometime this month. Pricing is also only an estimate at this stage, with reports pointing to a range of $149 to $199. If you’re looking for a lightweight fitness tracker with built-in GPS, long battery life, and basic smart features, the Fitbit Edge could be worth waiting for.
