Screenless fitness trackers are increasingly becoming a more visible alternative to smartwatches, and Google entered the category this year with the Fitbit Air. The wearable does away with the display altogether, instead focusing on passive health and fitness tracking through the connected smartphone. Google had earlier confirmed that the Fitbit Air will launch in India in October, and a new leak now claims to have revealed the launch date and expected price.
Fitbit Air India launch date, price tipped
According to tipster Sanju Choudhary, the Fitbit Air could launch in India on October 2nd, with an expected price of Rs 12,999 to Rs 13,999. Google hasn’t confirmed either detail yet. The company confirmed the India launch during its Pixel 11 launch event in August, but stopped short of revealing the exact date or Indian pricing.
The tracker also reportedly started appearing at retail stores back then only in August. Images shared online show what appears to be the Fitbit Air in black, blue and red variants, while one retailer is said to be selling it for around Rs 16,000. Notably, there are some listings of the Fitbit Air on Amazon India but they aren’t being sold via authorised sellers.
For context, the Fitbit Air starts at USD 99.99 (around Rs 9,600) in the US, while the Stephen Curry Special Edition costs USD 129.99 (around Rs 12,500).
Fitbit Air specifications and features
The Fitbit Air is quite different from Fitbit’s earlier fitness bands and smartwatches because there’s no screen or buttons. The small pebble-shaped module uses haptic feedback and a status light, while health data, activity reports and coaching features are viewed through the Google Health app.
The tracker is tipped to feature an optical heart-rate sensor, SpO2 and skin-temperature sensors, along with a three-axis accelerometer and gyroscope. It also has a vibration motor and 5ATM water resistance. Battery life is rated at up to seven days, with magnetic charging. Google says the device supports 24/7 heart-rate and heart-rhythm tracking, AFib alerts, HRV, resting heart rate, sleep-stage tracking and automatic workout detection.
Unlike an Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch, it’s not designed for users who want notifications, apps or live workout metrics on their wrist. At the same time, it offers a simpler entry point into screenless tracking than Whoop or Oura, particularly for users who do not want a recurring subscription for basic health tracking.
If the tipped Rs 12,999 – Rs 13,999 price turns out to be accurate, the Fitbit Air will therefore be aimed at people prioritising continuous health and sleep tracking over smartwatch functionality. Buyers looking for a screen and real-time exercise data would have more reason to consider a conventional fitness band or smartwatch instead.
