Google I/O 2026 dates have been officially announced. The annual developer conference will take place in May this year on May 19th and May 20th at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. As with every Google I/O event, this time too, we expect major announcements of Google products and services, especially Android 17. AI is also highly likely to be a major focus for Google I/O this year.
Google announced the dates after visitors solved an online puzzle on the I/O 2026 website. There are several puzzles and mini games powered by the Gemini 3 model, which one has to go through to unlock the dates. You can still play the mini games through this website. You’ll have to clear the different levels to get to the final stage. Some of these games include ‘Hole in One’ for a mini golf-like experience and ‘Nonogram’ for endless board games. The use of Gemini 3-powered puzzles is a clever, if somewhat elaborate, way to engage the developer community, which is what the I/O conference is all about.
The complete schedule isn’t out yet, but we can expect major announcements on Google’s developer side of things. One is Android 17, which will get its first official preview at the event. Google recently rolled out Android 17 Beta 1 to eligible Pixel phones. The new changes include better orientation for content on tablets and foldables, and more transparency on which apps have access to location, microphone, or camera.
Android 17 is also expected to bring visual changes like a new quick settings panel similar to OriginOS 6 and ColorOS 16. We should get the complete picture at I/O 2026 when Google officially debuts Android 17. While the Android 17 privacy features are a welcome step, the visual changes sound like Google playing catch-up with other Android OEMs.
We may even get a teaser for the Pixel 11 series at I/O 2026. More announcements for Gemini 4.0 and deeper integration of Gemini across apps and products are also expected at the developer conference.
Google I/O 2026 will be livestreamed globally with the keynote taking place on day 1, May 19th. The keynote will most likely be addressed by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, followed by announcements on various features and updates.
