Pixel 11 series launch set for August 12th as Google starts sending out invites

Highlights
  • Google announces August 12 launch date for the Pixel 11 series
  • The lineup should include Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold
  • Pixel 11 could start at a higher cost than the Pixel 10, which arrived with a Rs 79,999 price tag

Google has started sending out invites for the Pixel 11 series event. The company is organising an event in New York on August 12 to unveil the “next generation of Pixel,” according to an invite posted, rather ironically, by Apple reporter Mark Gurman. The launch event begins at 6 PM ET, which means 3:30 AM IST on August 13. If you’re in India, you’ll likely catch up on all the official announcements when you wake up in the morning.

Unofficially, though, much has been revealed about the Pixel 11 series already, which hardly comes as a surprise. Back in March and April, tipster OnLeaks partnered with Android Headline to reveal the design of the upcoming Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

The high-quality renders suggest the Pixel 11 will not look too different from the Pixel 10 series, but wil feature some subtle design tweaks, including a completely blacked-out rear camera module rather than a dual-tone one. Expect the bezels to be slightly slimmer than before to enhance viewing experience, while everything else remains largely the same, including a flat frame and display.

Meanwhile, Google’s upcoming foldable phone, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, could be the company’s thinnest foldable yet. If true, this would allow the foldable to better compete with foldables from Samsung, Motorola, and Vivo, who have all impressed Renders of the foldable suggest the rear camera system will not sit flush with the housing as it did on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The IP68 rating, which was one of the defining durability features of the predecessor, can be expected, if not bettered.

The Tensor G6 is expected to power all four Pixel 11 models. Other specifications should be clearer as we approach the August 12 launch date, but you can expect AI to be a major USP. As for pricing, expect the Pixel 11 series to cost slightly more than its predecessor due to the ongoing memory chip shortage. To recall, the Pixel 10 launched in India starting at Rs 79,999. If you’re a Pixel fan looking to upgrade to a new Pixel phone, you might want to hold off until the Pixel 11 announcement to make a more informed buying decision.
