Google Pixel 5a launch timeline tipped, but don’t get excited if you’re in India

Google Pixel 5a specifications could include a 6.2-inch display, Snapdragon 765G, and Android 12 OS.

Highlights
  • Google Pixel 5a will reportedly launch in August.
  • The phone will come as a successor to the Pixel 4a from 2020.
  • Google Pixel 5a is expected to launch only in the US and Japan markets, which means the phone may not come to India.

Google Pixel 5a was confirmed to launch sometime later this year but an exact timeline hasn’t been revealed by the company yet. However, that changes today as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On report claims the Google Pixel 5a will debut in August and will be on sale the same month. This falls exactly in line with Google Pixel 4a’s launch timeframe from last year. To recall, Google confirmed the existence of the Pixel 5a, following rumours and speculations about its cancellation. Unlike the Pixel 4a, the successor will only be available in the US and Japan markets and, hence, an India launch looks unlikely.

Google Pixel 5a specifications (rumoured)

While details regarding the Pixel 5a specifications are still a mystery, earlier reports suggested the handset would sport a 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED display with probably a 90Hz panel. It is said to get dual or triple cameras at the back, which would it a first for the Pixel ‘a’ series phones. It is likely to boot Android 12 out of the box. The phone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC paired with 4GB/6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. Connectivity features could include 5G, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS and USB Type-C port for charging and data sync.

Pixel 5a design

As for the design, the recently leaked renders show the Google Pixel 5a 5G will have a punch-hole cutout on the top left corner for the selfie snapper and slim bezels. The phone has a boxy design with a square module on the back to accommodate dual sensors and an LED flash. The volume rocker and white accented power buttons are on the right spine. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for security. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much what we so far know about the Pixel 5a but since the said launch is still more than a month away, we may come across more details.
