Paytm FASTag services will cease after March 15th, according to the latest guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It will continue to function as long as there is a balance, but after the deadline, the FASTag will become non-operational. The only alternative is to deactivate the Paytm FASTag and apply for a new one from the 32 authorised banks for a seamless and cost-effective commute on highways.

The Paytm FASTag can be deactivated online via the app or the customer support number. Here’s how:

The Paytm app lets users deactivate the FASTag and request for refund through the customer support page. To do so,

Step 1: Open the Paytm app on your mobile phone

Step 2: Now search for ‘Manage Fastag‘ in the search bar and select the option

To deactivate Paytm FASTag via call, dial the toll-free number 1800-120-4210 from your registered Paytm mobile number and ask the customer care executive to close the FASTag linked to your mobile number. Also, provide the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) or Tag ID, if asked and the tag will be discontinued shortly.

Once you’ve deactivated your Paytm FASTag, here’s how to purchase and activate a new FASTag from FASTag’s official mobile phone on Android and iPhone.

Step 1: Firstly, download the ‘My FASTag‘ app from the Google Play Store or App Store

Step 2: Once installed, open the app and select ‘Buy online‘ option after scrolling down a bit

Step 3: Here, you’ll be able to buy a FASTag from Amazon or Flipkart. However, a FASTag may not be available for all pin codes

Step 4: After buying a FASTag for your vehicle, go back to the My FASTag app and select ‘Activate FASTag’

Step 5: Now select the only option on the next screen that says ‘Activate NHAI FASTag bought Online

Step 6: Choose the e-commerce platform you purchased the tag from, such as Amazon or Flipkart

Step 7: Now scan the FASTag and the app will prompt you to enter your vehicle’s information such as registration certificate (RC) details

Step 8: After that, link the FASTag with your bank account and proceed to recharge it

Your new FASTag will now be activated. Alternatively, one can also purchase a new FASTag through their bank’s mobile app instead of using the My FASTag app.

This makes activation and recharging of the tag a bit easier and seamless. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has now authorised 32 banks to issue RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) stickers aka FASTags of which Paytm Payments Bank has been omitted after RBI’s instructions.

Will I be able to recharge my Paytm FASTag after Paytm Payments Bank gets banned?

You will be able to recharge and even use your Paytm FASTag at tolls however, the Reserve Bank of India has instructed Paytm Payments Bank to dismiss all top-up or recharge functionalities after March 15th. Meaning, if you have any balance remaining in the Paytm FASTag, it will be rendered useless after March 15th.

Can I port my Paytm Fastag to any other bank?

No, the Paytm FASTags are not interoperable, meaning it can’t be ported to any other bank. It needs to be deactivated. You will have to apply for a new FASTag.
