Reliance Jio had the fastest 5G download speeds in India during October, followed by Bharti Airtel, according to a report by OpenSignal. Furthermore, Jio users in the country apparently experienced 306.3Mbps 5G mobile download speeds. This is said to be around 12.3 percent faster than Airtel. Reliance Jio has the fastest 5G mobile download speeds

  • The picture completely changes when it comes to upload speeds as Airtel takes a clear lead with a speed of 25.1Mbps, compared to 6.4Mbps of Jio.
  • Reliance Jio leads in the overall download speed as well, as per the report.

Airtel emerged as a clear winner when it comes to 5G experiences, as per the report. But Jio takes the lead when it comes to the average overall upload speeds (5.8Mbps). Airtel comes in close at 5.6Mbps, which is quite close. Vi comes in third place with upload speeds of 5.1Mbps, only 0.7Mbps less than Jio’s.

OpenSignal

Airtel takes the lead in the streaming on-demand and live videos category. The experience with multiplayer mobile games through over-the-top OTT voice services on mobile apps with 5G is also apparently the best on Airtel. This was enabled by the launch of Airtel and Jio’s Xstream AirFiber’ and ‘AirFiber’ fixed wireless access (FWA) services, respectively. The service is said to have enabled the telecom networks to acquire close to 50 million 5G subscriptions each.

Vodafone Idea is apparently working on meeting the 5G obligations. The company is conducting tests in Pune and exploring OpenRAN and virtualised RAN technologies to streamline the rollout and reduce costs,” Hardik Khatri, Senior Analyst at OpenSignal said in the report.

Coverage

As for coverage, Reliance Jio led with 8.8 points out of 10. This is followed by Airtel with 6.8 in terms of coverage experience. Vi and BSNL scored 3.4 points and 1.1 points, respectively. 

According to OpenSignal, Reliance Jio offered the most consistent quality network at 60.9 percent, Airtel at 57.7 percent, Vi at 50.5 percent and BSNL at 13.6 percent, respectively. The latest report is based on an analysis of the experience of mobile networks across 22 Indian telecom circles. The network experiences were assessed and included data over a period of 90 days from June 1 to August 29, 2023.
