MediaTek launches Dimensity 9500s, 8500 as OPPO Find X9s and POCO flagship confirmed for India

Highlights
  • Dimensity 9500s is MediaTek’s new flagship chipset.
  • The Dimensity 8500 is designed for flagship-level performance.
  • The OPPO Find X9s is also confirmed to launch in India with the Dimensity 9500s.

MediaTek has taken the wraps off two new smartphone chipsets aimed squarely at the premium and flagship segments in India. At its MediaTek Tech Day event held in Delhi, the Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8500 were unveiled, while also confirming that OPPO and POCO will be among the first brands to bring Dimensity 9500s–powered phones to the Indian market. OPPO announced that the Find X9s will launch in India with the Dimensity 9500s, while POCO also confirmed a new smartphone with the same chipset is also on the way.

These new MediaTek chipsets may help increase competition in the high-end Android market, which can lead to better pricing and more choice.

Here’s a closer look at the new MediaTek chipsets.

MediaTek Dimensity 9500s

The Dimensity 9500s is MediaTek’s most advanced mobile chipset yet. Built on a 3nm manufacturing process, it is designed to deliver flagship-level performance while improving power efficiency at the same time. At its core is an All-Big Core CPU design that can handle heavy tasks like gaming, photography, and AI processing more smoothly, while still being efficient enough for everyday use. MediaTek claims this approach helps maintain performance for longer periods without excessive heating or battery drain.

For gaming and graphics, the chip uses the Immortalis-G925 GPU, which supports advanced visual effects like ray tracing. This should translate into smoother frame rates in demanding games. MediaTek has also added new game and frame management technologies that aim to reduce power consumption during long gaming sessions.

On the camera side, the Dimensity 9500s supports 8K Dolby Vision HDR video recording with real-time motion tracking. Connectivity is another focus area. The chipset supports 5G Release 17, faster carrier aggregation, improved power-saving features, and enhanced Wi-Fi and Bluetooth range, useful for users in areas with weak signals or crowded networks.

MediaTek Dimensity 8500

Alongside the 9500s, MediaTek also introduced the Dimensity 8500, aimed at premium smartphones that focus on speed, gaming, and efficiency without going all the way to flagship prices. Built on a 4nm process, the Dimensity 8500 uses eight high-performance CPU cores and a new Mali-G720 GPU, offering a noticeable jump in performance over its predecessor. MediaTek says this chip is designed for smooth multitasking, fast app loading, and stable gaming, while keeping power consumption under control.

The chipset also brings improved AI capabilities, including support for modern AI models used in photography and image processing. For users, this typically means better zoom photos, sharper images, and smarter scene optimisation.

The Dimensity 8500 could compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, currently powering sub-flagships like the OnePlus 15R in India.

With OPPO confirming the Find X9s for India and POCO also planning a Dimensity 9500s smartphone, more flagship options powered by MediaTek are entering the market. The Dimensity 9500s–powered Find X9s and POCO’s upcoming phone are likely to appeal to users who want flagship performance, strong gaming capabilities, advanced cameras, and good battery efficiency, possibly at more competitive prices than present flagships.

The Find X9s is also rumoured to launch as a compact flagship, so this phone would be a good choice for anyone looking for powerful performance in a smaller form factor. Meanwhile, devices using the Dimensity 8500 could be ideal for users who want near-flagship performance without spending top-tier money. With promising upgrades, it would be worth waiting for the Find X9s and the upcoming POCO smartphone.

As OPPO, POCO, and other brands reveal more details in the coming months, MediaTek’s new chipsets could play a key role in giving buyers more powerful options across a wider range of price points.
