Motorola has launched a new battery-focused smartphone in India. The Moto G86 Power has a 6,720mAh battery, the biggest on a Motorola phone so far. It’s priced at Rs 17,999 in India, making it one of the few phones to offer this battery capacity under Rs 20,000. This makes it a standout feature for the Moto G86 Power, but the phone also has other highlights, such as its design, which includes a vegan leather finish.
Despite featuring a plastic body, the vegan leather back gives the Moto G86 Power a touch of style. In addition to being stylish, the phone looks extremely durable on paper, with IP68/IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance and MIL-STD 810H military standard for extreme conditions. Gorilla Glass 7i protects the display. The phone is available in three colours: Golden Cypress, Cosmic Sky, and Spellbound.
The standout feature is the 6,720mAh battery, Motorola’s biggest yet, promising up to 53 hours on a single charge. This suggests we’re looking at a two-day battery life, but we will know its real-world performance only after reviewing the phone. At just 33W charging speeds, the Motorola G86 Power will charge slower than rivals like the iQOO Z10R and Tecno Pova Curve which charge at up to 45W speeds.
Software support is underwhelming. Only one Android upgrade (to Android 16) is promised, alongside three years of security patches. That’s limiting, especially when rivals like the Galaxy M36 offer six years of updates.
The Moto G86 Power still has decent hardware under its hood. It’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset, which is a popular pick for phones under Rs 20,000. To get an idea about its performance, consider the Realme Narzo 80 Pro, which carries the same chipset. In our review, we talked about its stable gaming performance and we did not notice any performance dips during everyday use. The Motorola mid-ranger will be available in a single 8GB LPDDR4X RAM option that’s expandable up to 24GB with RAM Boost. There’s 128GB of onboard storage, which can also be expanded up to 1TB.
The display is a 6.7-inch Super HD (2712 x 1220 pixels) AMOLED 2.5D panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, and 4,500 nits peak brightness. Features like HDR, HDR10+, 10-bit colour depth, and DCI-P3 cinematic colour make it a good screen for content consumption. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos add to the overall experience.
The Moto G86 has a dual-camera setup at the back with a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 118-degree field of view and macro vision for close-up shots. The camera features include Dual Capture Video, Night Vision, Portrait, Ultra-Res, and 4K video recording at 30fps. For selfies, there’s a 32MP front camera with Photo Booth, Dual Capture, Portrait Mode, and FHD video recording at 30fps. The camera setup seems versatile, offering both ultra-wide and macro capabilities.
With the G86 Power, Motorola is clearly betting on battery endurance and rugged durability as its differentiators, even if it means compromising on long-term software value.
Priced under Rs 18,000, it undercuts rivals like the iQOO Z10R and CMF Phone 2 Pro. However, Motorola’s limited OS upgrade promise holds it back, especially with the Galaxy M36 offering significantly better long-term support. If battery life is your top priority, the G86 Power is a solid pick. But if you’re looking for longevity and software value, better options exist.
