Motorola is preparing to launch its next flagship smartphone in India, the Motorola Signature 27, this November. It will be the second device in the company’s premium Signature series, following the original Motorola Signature, which arrived with a starting price just under Rs 60,000. The new model brings substantial upgrades to the processor and camera hardware, along with additions such as Bang & Olufsen audio and Google’s Gemini Omni and Lyria creative tools.
Motorola has confirmed that the Signature 27 will launch in India on November 5th. The company has yet to announce its price, but speculations are rife that the phone could get a huge segment bump.
The first-generation Motorola Signature started at Rs 59,999 for the 12GB + 256GB storage variant, going up to Rs 69,999 for 16GB + 1TB. Its successor could start well above Rs 60,000, considering the move to a newer flagship chipset and upgraded camera hardware.
There are signs that premium smartphone prices could climb further in 2026. The OPPO Find X10 starts at Rs 1,39,999, while the upcoming iQOO 16 is tipped to cost around Rs 1 lakh in India. Both are relevant comparisons because the iQOO 16 also packs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The reported chipset cost of around USD 300 (around Rs 29,000) could add to the pressure on manufacturers, besides rising RAM prices.
The Motorola Signature 27 brings upgrades across its display, battery, performance and camera hardware. It features an approximately 6.8-inch quad-curved LTPO OLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate, compared to the 6.8-inch Extreme AMOLED panel on the original Signature. The refresh rate remains unchanged, but the move to LTPO technology should allow the display to adjust its refresh rate more efficiently depending on the content.
Performance is a major area of change. The original Signature used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, whereas the Signature 27 will be among the first smartphones in India to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Motorola is pairing the chipset with its ArcticMesh cooling system, which includes a vapour chamber that is 40 percent larger, copper mesh, liquid metal and thermal gel. The company also claims to have added a six-antenna cloud array to improve connectivity.
Battery capacity also increases from 5,200mAh to around 6,000mAh. The original Signature supported 90W wired and 50W wireless charging, although Motorola has yet to confirm the charging speeds for the new model. The Signature 27 also carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.
The camera system gets a substantial upgrade. The original Signature had a triple 50MP rear camera setup, comprising a Sony LYTIA 828 primary sensor with OIS, a Sony LYTIA 600 periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide camera. The new model switches to a 50MP Sony LYT-910 main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and OIS, alongside a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS. This is a notable jump in resolution for the zoom camera, although the full camera experience will also depend on Motorola’s image processing.
Audio is new too. The original Signature featured stereo speakers with Sound by Bose, Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio support. The Signature 27 is Motorola’s first phone with Bang & Olufsen speakers, along with dedicated listening profiles and software integration. The company is also adding Google’s Gemini Omni for generating photos and videos from text prompts, while Lyria can create background music and soundtracks synchronised with videos. The phone has an aluminium frame with contoured edges, while the camera area combines ceramic and brushed aluminium. It will be available in Pantone Capulet Olive and Pantone Coal Smoke finishes. Motorola has also confirmed seven years of OS upgrades and security updates.
The original Signature made a case for flagship-level hardware at a relatively competitive starting price, but its successor appears to be targeting a higher price bracket with a more powerful chipset and upgraded camera hardware. This puts it in a market where flagships from Samsung and Apple compete. Motorola will need to strike a balance between pricing the Signature 27 competitively and reflecting its more ambitious hardware. If the price moves significantly above its predecessor, buyers may want to compare it with these rivals before making a decision. Waiting for the November 5th announcement would be the sensible approach, since launch offers could make it a better deal if you’re looking to buy the phone.
