[Exclusive]: Nokia 9 PureView press renders highlight the five-camera setup and in-display fingerprint sensor

Update (August 2025): HMD Global launched the Nokia 9 PureView at MWC on February 24, 2019, and the retail device matched the core leak: a five‑camera Zeiss setup arranged in a circular pattern on the back, Android One branding, no 3.5mm jack, and an in‑display fingerprint sensor on a 5.99‑inch 2K‑class display. The phone shipped with Snapdragon 845, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage as expected, prioritising its unique computational photography system over a flagship processor at launch. Camera hardware differed from early speculation and had no periscope or telephoto lens. Instead, it used five 12MP sensors (two RGB, three mono) to combine data for dynamic range and detail rather than offering high‑level optical zoom.

The Nokia 9 PureView will be among the stars of 2019, with the launch widely expected at the event HMD Global will be hosting at MWC 2019. The Nokia 9 has been in the rumour mills for a long time, but reports around the handset have been flowing non-stop for the past couple of months. Now, we bring to you the official press render of the Nokia 9 PureView that shows the key design details about the upcoming flagship phone.

The Nokia 9 PureView render we have sourced shows the smartphone will feature thick bezels above and below the display. This means the company will be behind brands such as Samsung and Huawei, which are making efforts to eliminate bezels with punch-hole displays or notches, at least on the design front. On the top-right corner will be the Nokia branding, next to the selfie camera. The earpiece and the usual set of sensors are also placed above the screen. There is an in-display fingerprint sensor on the handset to unlock the Nokia 9 with just a tap on the screen.

Moving towards the back, we can see the five cameras, LED flash, and an autofocus module in a circular layout. The Zeiss branding for the optics and the Android One branding for the software platform are visible on the back panel. The Nokia 9 PureView will feature curved edges on the back in order to make it easier for users to grip it. The power and volume buttons will be placed on the right edge.

Those also shows the handset will not feature a 3.5mm earphone jack and have a USB Type C port for data transfers and charging. The key Nokia 9 PureView specifications according to the rumour mill include a 5.99-inch display with 2K resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is expected to be powered by last year’s Snapdragon 845 SoC, backed by 6GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage.

With optics the focus of the Nokia 9 PureView, we can expect the smartphone to offer industry-leading features in the camera department. It is likely the company may use a high-resolution primary sensor that’s backed by an ultra-wide sensor to capture more area, depth of field sensor for bokeh shots, and telephoto zoom lens — similar to what we have seen previously on Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018). The fifth sensor could be a monochrome sensor to add more contrast and details to the photos or even a 3D ToF sensor, though it should again be pointed out that everything is speculative at this point. We can expect 5x or maybe even 10x lossless zoom on the handset.
