The Ola S1 Air could compete in terms of range and performance with the TVS iQube, Ather 450X and the Bajaj Chetak despite them belonging to a higher price segment.
Notably, the Ola S1 Air was launched back in October 2022 and earlier this year, CEO Bhavish Aggarwal promised to begin deliveries in July 2023.
In the video, the Ola S1 Air can be seen being ridden across the empty piece of tarmac and giving customers and prospective buyers a first look at how the electric scooter could look in the real world. While most design characteristics are similar to the Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro models, the Ola S1 Air takes the more cost-effective route and gets pressed steel wheels, unpainted panels on the lower half, and a drum brake setup.
However, the most interesting aspect of the video is the presence of rival scooters in the video. The Ola S1 Air in a shade of Orange is accompanied by a white TVS iQube, a blue Bajaj Chetak, a white Ather 450X, and a silver electric scooter from Hero Electric. What is interesting to note is that the Ather, the Bajaj and the TVS EVs are positioned higher in the market in terms of price as compared to the Ola S1 Air.
The Ola S1 Air which will now only be made available in its 3kWh battery pack format is now priced at Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom). The electric scooter was initially announced at Rs 84,999 (ex-showroom) for the 2kWh variant last year. The Ather 450X starts at Rs 1.28 lakh.
Ola Electric has maintained its top position in the sales chart in June 2023. The company has managed to sell more than 17,500 scooters which is much higher than other OEMs in the market. However, this is the lowest sales figure for the company since March. The drop in sales figures across different manufacturers is because of the new and more stringent FAME II subsidy norms as well as reduced incentives.
