POCO has confirmed that its next budget 5G smartphone, the POCO C85 5G, will launch in India on December 9th at 12 noon IST. The announcement comes after a dedicated microsite went live on Flipkart, where the phone will be sold. POCO has also begun revealing several key features of the device, including its battery, charging details, and rear camera setup.
The POCO C85 5G will ship with a 6,000mAh battery, which has lately become the average for the budget segment, along with 33W fast charging and 10W wired reverse charging. The design teaser shows a square camera module placed in the top-right corner with vertical POCO branding on the back. The handset will be available in a purple colour option, at least, at launch.
While the company hasn’t fully detailed the cameras, POCO has confirmed via a teaser that the phone will feature a dual rear setup with a 50MP primary AI sensor. On the front, an 8MP selfie camera is expected. The device will likely sport a waterdrop-style notch, according to renders spotted on the Google Play Console.
The Google Play Console listing also hints that the POCO C85 5G will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset, though some reports point to the Dimensity 6300 SoC. Both chipsets sit in the entry-level 5G bracket and are built with efficiency in mind. The Google Play Console listing showed the phone running Android 16, paired with 4GB RAM, and a 720×1600 HD+ display. Rumours suggest a large 6.9-inch panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, which would give the C85 a visual advantage over most phones in this price range.
While POCO hasn’t confirmed pricing, the C-series typically sits in the Rs 8,000 – Rs 12,000 segment. Given the 5G connectivity, 6,000mAh battery, 50MP camera and reverse charging, the C85 5G may land closer to the higher end of the segment. If priced lower, the device could undercut budget 5G offerings from Realme, Samsung, Lava and Motorola, especially those using smaller batteries and slower charging.
The launch comes at a time when the budget 5G category is becoming more competitive, with brands focusing less on raw power and more on battery endurance, display smoothness, camera reliability and long-term software support. With the C85, POCO could be targeting 5G buyers who want a dependable daily device without pushing past the Rs 12,000-mark.
If the POCO C85 5G does arrive in the expected price range, it will likely appeal to users who prioritise battery life, smooth scrolling, and basic but reliable 5G performance. The 6,000mAh battery and 33W charging give the phone an edge for heavy users, students, and people who stream or game casually for long hours. Those who want higher camera versatility, AMOLED screens, or stronger gaming performance may find better value in slightly more expensive models from Samsung’s M-series or iQOO’s Z-series.
