Realme’s latest flagship and the second Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 phone in India, the Realme GT 8 Pro, goes on sale in India today. The phone is available across Realme’s website, Flipkart, and offline stores in the country. The Realme GT 8 Pro Dream Edition also goes on sale today with the same hardware but a different design theme.
Available in Diary White and Urban Blue colors, the Realme GT 8 Pro is priced at Rs 72,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant and Rs 78,999 for the 16GB + 512GB model. Early buyers of the GT 8 Pro will get a bank discount of Rs 5,000 and a complimentary camera deco set. The price of the Dream Edition is Rs 79,999 for the sole 16GB + 512GB model, but launch offers are not applicable for this.
One of the main design attractions this year is the Switchable Camera Bump, which lets users alter the camera island style between round, square or robot-themed with the Deco Set, without affecting the camera hardware. Our review gives it a rating of 8.4/10 and our full impressions of it can be accessed here.
The GT 8 Pro Dream Edition, meanwhile, has been co-developed with the Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team. It comes in an Aston Martin Racing Green colour with Lime Essence accents, a silver Aston Martin logo, and an F1-inspired UI. It’s positioned as a more premium-looking model for buyers seeking a motorsport vibe.
The Realme GT 8 Pro and Dream Edition specifications include the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, running Realme UI 7 based on Android 16. It offers four years of OS updates and five years of security patches. Further, it comes with a 6.79-inch AMOLED display, which has a refresh rate of 144Hz, 1440p resolution, and peak brightness up to 7,000 nits. It supports 120W wired and 50W wireless, as well as reverse charging. Other features include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, NFC, IR blaster, eSIM, and IP68 + IP69 protection.
There is a 50MP main camera tuned with Ricoh GR mode, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 200MP periscope telephoto on the back, and a 32MP front camera. The Ricoh partnership is a first for Realme and the full camera hardware makes the setup rather versatile and well-tuned for photography enthusiasts.
The Realme GT 8 Pro starting price pitches it against the OnePlus 15. Even though both of them have the same starting price, they are made for different user profiles. The OnePlus 15 caters more to those who want polished software and a premium feel. The Realme GT 8 Pro focuses on giving the most hardware and features at the price. In our internal testing, the GT 8 Pro emerged as the clear winner in performance tests, while the OnePlus 15 took a lead in endurance and battery life. Realme has also put in some work in the camera department and the addition of a 200MP telephoto might give it an edge for photography enthusiasts.
The GT 8 Pro fits those smartphone users who value battery life, gaming performance, charging speed, and telephoto capabilities, with the plus point of having a phone they can customise visually. It may not appeal as much to users who prefer a more minimal UI, a more premium design approach, or a camera experience that stays consistent in all lighting conditions.
The Realme GT 8 Pro ticks three major boxes which are becoming sort of a norm for the smartphone industry these days: bigger batteries, longer software support, and camera partnerships with established imaging brands. All-day battery life has become a baseline expectation, which is why manufacturers are now moving toward much larger cells and faster charging speeds. Security updates and OS longevity are also major purchase drivers, pushing most high-end phones to adopt a minimum of four or five-year update strategies. Camera branding and tuning collaborations are becoming another differentiator, focusing on colour science and image processing rather than only megapixels. Realme’s collaboration with Ricoh for GR mode plays to these shifts, allowing the GT 8 Pro to position itself more strongly for photography-focused users.
