Realme P4R and Vivo T5x compared: which budget phone offers better value?

Realme P4R launched in India earlier this week as the latest budget smartphone. It carries a large 8,000mAh battery, a 50MP primary camera, a large 144Hz display, and more. With a starting price of Rs 18,999, the Realme P4R aims to deliver a battery-focused experience with a decent set of hardware in other areas. The handset is part of Realme’s P series, which is the brand’s battery-focused lineup.

The budget segment is quite competitive, with the Realme P4R facing off several rivals in the same price segment. Here, we take the Realme P4R and Vivo T5x against each other to see which phone offers better value for its price.

The 6GB variants start at Rs 20,999.

The Realme P4R has a sleek and premium design with a vertically aligned camera module. It also features an AI Pulse Light LED indicator on the back for alerts and notifications. The handset is available in Titanium Glare, Silver Glare, and Lavender Glare colours. In terms of durability, the Realme P4R comes with military-grade certification and an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance. Up front, the handset offers a 6.8-inch HD+ LCD screen with 1,200 nits peak brightness and 144Hz refresh rate.

In comparison, the Vivo T5x has a small square-shaped camera island. Its overall design is also sleek and minimalist, like the Realme P4R. The Vivo T5x is available in Cyber Green and Star Silver colours. It, however, has a stronger IP68/69+ certification to protect against heavy exposure to dust and water, and it also offers 5-Star Toughness Military-Grade protection. The Vivo T5x has a slightly smaller 6.76-inch FHD+ LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,300 nits of brightness. 

Design is subjective, so that comes down to personal preference, but if you’re seeking durability, the Vivo T5x is more secure. When it comes to display specs, the Realme P4R has the upper hand with its higher refresh rate. The Vivo T5x has a FHD+ resolution, which means better visual quality over the Realme P4R. 

Realme P4R vs Vivo T5x: chipset, battery

For performance, the Realme P4R uses the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, which is usually found on budget phones. It gets 14GB of dynamic RAM, which should help with multitasking and everyday usage. In comparison, the Vivo T5x gets a faster Dimensity 7400 chipset, meaning it’s more reliable when it comes to overall performance. The Realme P4R should still be dependable for everyday tasks. 

Battery is where the Realme P4R shines. The handset packs an 8,000mAh battery, one of the largest you can find in this segment. It’s claimed to last for three days, and gets 45W fast charging with reverse charging support as well. With regular usage, you should get a good two days of juice with the Realme P4R. 

The Vivo T5x offers a sizeable 7,200mAh battery with 44W fast charging and reverse charging support. Although not as much as what the Realme P4R offers, this battery capacity is still good for more than a day’s juice. 

If battery life is a priority, then the Realme P4R is your pick. But if you’re okay with dependable battery life, the Vivo T5x can be considered as well. 

Realme P4R vs Vivo T5x: cameras

For photography, the Realme P4R gets a 50MP AI-powered primary with a 2MP secondary camera. There’s an 8MP front camera with Motion Photo support on both the front and rear cameras. Realme has also added a suite of AI tools, including AI Eraser 2.0, AI Ultra Clarity, AI Unblur, and AI Portrait Glow, aimed at improving image quality and simplifying photo editing.

The Vivo T5x has a similar camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. However, the T5x has a superior 32MP selfie camera, so that could be a deal breaker if selfies are a priority for you. Also, both cameras support up to 4K video recording, making them ideal for content creation and vlogging.

You’ll likely get a similar experience with both the Realme P4R and Vivo T5x, at least with the rear cameras. However, when it comes to selfies, the T5x has the clear upper hand thanks to a more advanced sensor.

Realme P4R vs Vivo T5x: software

Both the Realme P4R and Vivo T5x offer a customisable UI. The Realme P4R runs Realme UI 7.0 with Android 16 out of the box. Realme UI 7.0 brings with it Flux Engine, designed for smoother app response and scrolling, a new misty glass control centre, several AI features, and customisation. The handset will get 2 OS upgrades and 3 years of security patches.

The Vivo T5x also runs the latest Android 16, layered with OriginOS 6 on top. This handset is also getting two OS upgrades, but it gets four years of security patch updates, giving it a slight advantage for long-term use. It also comes with customisation and AI features, such as Office Kit for easy file transfers from PC to phone and vice versa and AI Creation that generates text, summaries, and proofreads all types of content.

The only difference here would be the Vivo T5x offering an extra year of security updates if you plan on using your phone for longer. Otherwise, it comes down to which UI you’re more comfortable with.

Based on what each phone offers, the Realme P4R is the better pick for its larger battery and higher refresh rate display. It’s also more affordable, so budget-conscious buyers may want to consider this. But if you can stretch your budget, then the Vivo T5x is recommended as it offers a faster chipset, FHD+ display, and a superior selfie camera. If you’re currently using an older budget phone and want to upgrade, the Realme P4R offers a significant upgrade in the battery area, while the T5x is a better package for a slightly higher price.
