Xiaomi may be preparing one of the biggest upgrades yet for its Redmi Note series. A fresh leak suggests the upcoming Redmi Note 17 lineup could bring substantial improvements in battery capacity, display quality, performance and durability, even on models below the flagship tier.
The latest information comes from tipster Smart Pikachu (via), who claims that multiple Redmi Note 17 models are currently in development for the Chinese market. While Xiaomi hasn’t officially confirmed any specifications, the leaks point to the company bringing features once reserved for premium smartphones to the mid-range lineup.
According to Smart Pikachu, one Redmi Note 17 model may feature the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset, a 9,000mAh battery, a flat 1.5K OLED display, water resistance and a 50MP primary camera. This corroborates an earlier leak shared by Digital Chat Station who also claimed one or more Redmi Note 17 series models will get upgraded batteries.
Another variant, which could eventually launch as the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, is tipped to arrive with a Dimensity 7500-series chipset, a massive 10,000mAh battery, a 1.5K flat display, water resistance and a 200MP main camera. If these specifications prove accurate, Xiaomi could become one of the few major smartphone brands to push battery capacities into five-digit territory in the mainstream mid-range segment. For context, the current Redmi Note 15 Pro and Note 15 Pro+ feature batteries of up to 6,580mAh and 6,500mAh, respectively. A jump to 9,000mAh or even 10,000mAh would represent a significant generational leap. Notably, the Honor X80 Pro Max recently launched with an 11,000mAh after launching a 10,000mAh phone a few months ago. Even Realme has phones in the mid-range with 10,000mAh batteries.
Besides battery, performance could see an upgrade as well. Qualcomm has already confirmed that Redmi will be among the first brands to launch a smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset. Meanwhile, the Dimensity 7500-powered variant would succeed last year’s Redmi Note 15 Pro, which used the Dimensity 7400-Ultra platform. The alleged Redmi Note 17 Pro Max may retain the 200-megapixel camera seen on the current Redmi Note 15 Pro and Pro+.
Digital Chat Station claims the standard Redmi Note 17 could debut in China as early as July, with the Pro models expected to follow in late July or August. Redmi is currently focused on the June 30th launch of the Redmi K90 Ultra, so official teasers for the Note 17 lineup may begin shortly after that event.
The Redmi Note 17 series is shaping up to be one of the more interesting mid-range launches of the year. Battery life appears set to become a major selling point, but bigger batteries often come with trade-offs in weight and thickness. Buyers looking for endurance-focused phones should keep an eye out on more Redmi Note 17 series leaks.
