Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro, Galaxy S27 Ultra battery capacities tipped; silicon-carbon batteries could finally arrive
Samsung’s next flagship Galaxy S series is still several months away, but fresh leaks are already offering a glimpse at one of the upgrades buyers may notice the most. A new report suggests the upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra could pack larger batteries than their predecessors, with Samsung also tipped to adopt silicon-carbon battery technology for the first time in its flagship lineup.

According to Dutch publication GalaxyClub, the Galaxy S27 Pro will feature a battery with a rated capacity of 5,087mAh, which is expected to be marketed as a 5,200mAh typical capacity. Earlier leaks had pointed to a 5,000mAh battery, making this an upgrade if the latest report is accurate.

The bigger change could come with the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is tipped to feature a 5,534mAh rated battery. Samsung could market it as a 5,700mAh battery, with the report adding that the company may even advertise it as a 5,800mAh cell. For comparison, the Galaxy S26 Ultra launched with a 5,000mAh battery, alongside 60W wired and 25W wireless charging. Battery details for the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ remain unknown.
The reported increase is believed to be possible because Samsung may finally switch to silicon-carbon battery technology. Unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, silicon-carbon cells offer higher energy density, allowing manufacturers to fit larger batteries into similarly sized devices. Several Chinese brands, including Honor, OnePlus, Xiaomi and Vivo, have already adopted the technology in recent phones.
The Galaxy S27 Pro, recently spotted in the GSMA database, is expected to become a new premium tier positioned between the Plus and Ultra models. Reports suggest it will offer flagship-grade performance and camera hardware in a more compact body, while omitting the S Pen to maintain a smaller form factor. The phone is tipped to use the Exynos 2700 in markets such as Europe and South Korea, while the US may receive a Snapdragon variant. The Galaxy S27 Ultra, meanwhile, is expected to feature a custom Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 for Galaxy chipset globally.
For buyers, a larger battery alone is unlikely to be the deciding factor, but Samsung adopting silicon-carbon technology would be a good upgrade. If the company can deliver longer battery life without increasing the phone’s size or weight, the Galaxy S27 series could be a compelling buy and worth waiting for.
