Vivo’s next premium V-series smartphone may not arrive as soon as previously expected. According to tipster Sanju Choudhary, the India launch of the Vivo V80 series has been postponed due to “strategy shifts,” with no revised launch timeline shared yet. The same tipster had earlier claimed the Vivo V80 series would debut in India in mid-August.
The news of the delay comes as leaks surrounding the Vivo V80 Lite have started surfacing, suggesting Vivo could introduce the more affordable model before bringing the standard V80 to the market.
While Vivo hasn’t officially commented on the reported delay or even the series for that matter, the latest development indicates a possible change in the company’s launch roadmap. Such postponements are not uncommon, especially at a time when manufacturers are battling rising costs due to the DRAM and NAND crisis and having to cancel full-fledged product lines. However, we could see a Vivo V80 Lite launch soon, as the phone has been spotted on various certifications and even Geekbench, revealing a Dimensity 7300e chipset.
Vivo V80 expected specifications
Previous leaks suggest the Vivo V80 could feature a 6.59-inch 1.5K flat AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset. The phone is also tipped to pack a 7,200mAh battery with 90W fast charging, marking an increase over the Vivo V70‘s 6,500mAh cell while retaining the same charging speed. The chipset remains the same as the predecessor.
For photography, the phone is expected to offer a Zeiss-branded triple rear camera setup comprising a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Other rumoured features include a 50MP autofocus selfie camera, a 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, IP68 and IP69 ratings, and an aluminium alloy frame.
The tipster has claimed in the past that the Vivo V80 could be priced similarly to the OPPO Reno 16, which starts at Rs 61,999 in India. That wouldn’t be surprising, considering the Vivo V70 is currently retailing at Rs 59,999, much higher above its initial launch price of Rs 45,999 for the base 8GB + 256GB variant.
With the reported spec changes appearing incremental over the Vivo V70, buyers who are not in a hurry may want to wait for Vivo’s official announcement to assess whether the upgrades justify the expected higher price.
