Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra India launch tipped for March; Pro variants skipped globally
After launching in China, the Xiaomi 17 series is now set to make its global debut. There might be a slight change this time, though, as Xiaomi is rumoured to globally unveil its flagship smartphones earlier than usual this year, with the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra set to launch ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC). The company is also reportedly lining up an India launch for early March, continuing its strategy of bringing its top-end phones to the market soon after their China debut.
This information comes from tipster Yogesh Brar, who says the Xiaomi 17 Pro series will not be released outside China. Why does this matter? The Pro models are undoubtedly the most exciting in the lineup, with their secondary displays and a design very close to the iPhone 17 Pro series. The Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max differ, though with an interactive secondary display and better hardware. Instead of the Pro models, select global markets will receive a Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition by February 28th, highlighting the brand’s continued focus on photography.

Both the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra are powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, firmly placing them in the ultra-premium Android category. In China, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra starts at CNY 6,999, which roughly converts to around Rs 91,000. It features a large 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. In India, Xiaomi appears set to follow a familiar playbook by launching the successors to the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Pricing, however, will be a key factor. The Xiaomi 15 launched at Rs 64,999, while the Xiaomi 15 Ultra was priced at Rs 109,999. With rising component costs and the new Snapdragon chipset, the Xiaomi 17 series is expected to be priced slightly higher.
