After launching the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which are top-tier flagships priced from Rs 89,999, Xiaomi seems to be working on a more affordable flagship, the Xiaomi 17T. Earlier this month, a tipster reported that the Xiaomi 17T could launch in India in April or May. Now, a new leak from a different tipster suggests a May launch is more realistic. Additionally, the Xiaomi 17T could be priced between Rs 55,000 and Rs 60,000.
A recent post on X by tipster Debayan Roy suggests the Xiaomi 17T could cost between Rs 55,000 and Rs 60,000. While the tipster wasn’t clear whether the pricing is inclusive of discounts and offers, it still points to a more affordable premium device for those who feel the Xiaomi 17 is a little out of budget.
The latest Xiaomi 17T price leak should be taken with a fistful of salt, as we’re still in the early days. Xiaomi is yet to officially begin teasing the launch of the Xiaomi 17T.
The tipster mentioned a few key specifications of the upcoming Xiaomi 17T. Firstly, the smartphone could sport a 1.5K 144Hz OLED display, making it smoother than the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which feature 120Hz displays. This also suggests a phone aimed at mobile gamers, much like the iQOO 15R and OnePlus 15R. A 144Hz display allows games like CoD Mobile and BGMI to support up to 144 fps, offering a slight edge in latency and response time.
Additionally, the Xiaomi 17T might be the first phone to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 chipset, a sub-flagship processor announced just a few days ago. MediaTek claims the chipset is designed for “gamers, creators, and power users. Featuring an All Big Core CPU, Arm Mali-G720 MC8 GPU, and the advanced NPU 880, it combines ultra-smooth gaming, powerful AI processing, and exceptional power efficiency, so you can play longer.”
While it’s still unconfirmed, the Xiaomi 17T should offer Leica-tuned cameras. The tipster suggests a 50MP OIS main camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP JN5 telephoto lens making up the rear camera module. The front should see a 32MP sensor. On paper, this sounds like a solid setup and the Leica tuning should deliver impressive photography performance. Other features of the Xiaomi 17T could include wireless charging, which would be a solid addition to a sub-flagship phone; IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance; NFC; and an IR blaster, among other things.
If the leaked specs and pricing hold true, the Xiaomi 17T could be an impressive addition to Xiaomi’s lineup. The brand knows there is a gap in the Rs 60,000 segment that needs to be filled, given the rise in flagship phone prices. The Xiaomi 17T could end up being the flagship for the masses, with the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra acting as ultra-premium devices for the niche.
