A Xiaomi Mi A1 reportedly exploded while plugged in for charging

The Mi A1 (review) smartphone, Xiaomi's last year offering, is back in news but not for a good reason. The handset is said to have joined the list of phones that have gone up in flames. As reported by an MIUI user — on behalf of his friend, the Mi A1 exploded when it was kept on charge overnight. The owner came out unhurt from the incident as the phone was kept in a distance inside a protective case.

The report further claims that the device was 8-months old and there was no heating issue while charging or otherwise, prior to the explosion. The images shared alongside reveal the Mi A1 in a miserable condition. The rear panel can be seen completely destroyed leaving no trace of the fingerprint sensor. This is the first reported case of an explosion of the model. The matter was raised to Xiaomi's customer care, but there has been no response so far. 

Talking about the Mi A1, it was one of the best smartphones of 2017. The handset has now reportedly been discontinued by Xiaomi as its successor the Mi A2 (review) is now in town. The latter was launched a couple of months back with a slew of upgrades and a price tag of Rs 16,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model.
