Sony LinkBuds Clip Review: Soundtrack Your Surroundings

Sometimes you need to hear the world around you while still enjoying your media. While traditional noise-cancelling options block out the world and wearable neckbands like the Sony Bravia Theatre U offer a personal home theatre experience without headphone fatigue, the Sony LinkBuds Clip serve a highly specific purpose: keeping you connected to your environment.

Design and Fit

The LinkBuds Clip feature an open-back, clip-on design that attaches to your ear similar to a piece of jewellery. It takes a little getting used to, but once positioned, it provides a highly secure fit, even without the optional rubber inserts. The charging case matches this aesthetic by resembling a small ring box.

They come in colours like green, black, and lavender, and feature an IPX4 water resistance rating to handle light rain. However, the case lacks wireless charging, so you’re limited to the USB-C port on the back.

Sound and Performance

These open-back earbuds are not designed for audiophiles seeking deep bass, nor are they suited for noisy environments like flights. Instead, they deliver clear vocals and good channel separation, making them excellent for podcasts and background music during work.

The LinkBuds Clip (model WF-LC900) are powered by 10mm drivers and support DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) to upscale compressed audio. They also utilise Bluetooth 5.3 and support dual-device connection (Multipoint), allowing you to seamlessly switch between your phone and laptop during the workday.

At full volume, the earbuds get fairly loud, yet they manage sound leakage exceptionally well. Unless you are in a dead-silent library, people nearby will not be able to eavesdrop on your music or calls.

Microphone and Battery Life

The microphone performs adequately for office calls, though heavy background commotion can make your voice sound muffled to the person on the other end. To combat this, Sony integrated AI-powered Voice Pickup Technology to help isolate vocals, though extreme real-world noise may still present a challenge.

Battery life is a strong point. You can expect 7 to 8 hours of mixed usage on a single charge, and up to 40 hours total with the charging case. This makes them highly reliable for an entire workday of continuous listening and meetings.

Verdict

Priced at approximately Rs 19,000, the Sony LinkBuds Clip are a premium investment for a very specific use case. If you are willing to trade immersive, audiophile sound for all-day comfort and environmental awareness, these are excellent companions for your workday.
