Fireflies.ai launches Talk, a free, unlimited voice dictation tool for Mac and Windows supporting 100+ languages, including 10+ Indian languages
Fireflies.ai has launched Fireflies Talk. It’s a voice dictation tool that lets users speak instead of typing across email, Slack, documents, AI prompts, CRM fields, and other applications. Brand says it is compatible with Mac and Windows both. Talk marks the company’s expansion beyond meeting notes into the broader workday.
What it does
Talk works across any application on Mac and Windows. It supposedly converts spoken input into clean, punctuated text without requiring users to learn dictation commands or speak punctuation aloud. The tool supposedly supports over 100 languages, including more than 10 Indian languages: Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Odia, Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi, and Sindhi. This should ideally make it directly relevant for India’s multilingual professional workforce.
One workflow-specific feature worth noting is Slack integration. Users can say a teammate’s name, and Talk automatically converts it into the corresponding @mention. It should reduce the friction between spoken input and a message ready to send.
Privacy
Completed dictations are stored locally on the user’s device and cannot be accessed by Fireflies or workspace administrators. Audio is sent to Fireflies’ speech-to-text provider for processing, but dictations are not stored on Fireflies’ servers and are not used to train AI models. Fireflies holds SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, and HIPAA compliance certifications.
Availability and roadmap
Fireflies Talk is available now through the Fireflies desktop app for Mac and Windows. Meanwhile, iOS support is coming soon, with Android to follow. Additionally, future development plans include using voice to retrieve information, interact with content on a user’s screen, and eventually take actions on the user’s behalf.
Talk is a logical extension of Fireflies’ trajectory. The platform began as a meeting notetaker, expanded into email management with the recently launched Email Assistant, and is now adding voice input across the full workday. Each addition reduces a different category of manual effort, note-taking, inbox management, and now typing. This should position Fireflies as a single AI layer across the working day rather than a point solution for one task.
The decision to make Talk free and unlimited, rather than a paid add-on, seems strategically sound. Voice dictation has historically been a feature users need to build a habit around before they find it indispensable. Removing the cost barrier entirely accelerates that adoption curve. Meanwhile, once users are dictating regularly within the Fireflies ecosystem, the pathway to paid plan features becomes more natural. For Indian professionals in particular, the breadth of Indian language support covering major regional languages across north, south, and east India is a meaningful differentiator.
